...Who has been on-duty for BBC One and Two recently - I felt like mentioning this separately, after hearing her on BBC Two tonight. To carry over a few comments from the BBC One topic:

She has been around for a few weeks now and I am not too keen on her announcing style either. I think I'm correct in saying she is the CA who introduced the new series of TopGear as being 'exclusive to BBC One'.

She sounds like a BBC Three announcer to me, her style doesn't work for me, but she could improve.

I am surprised as the BBC Announcers are normally of a high standard yet she sounds totally out of place - her style and pace is just not suited to BBC One. How on earth she passed any audition process is beyond me.

When I read the above comments, I agreed completely - but it's only tonight that I realised how poor she comes across as an announcer in general. Whether a CA is pleasant to listen to or not can be a subjective thing, but in this case, I honestly can't find anything positive.

On occasions her annos come out as quite lifeless; it makes her sound like she is either reading from the script without any sense of character, or as if she's lost enthusiasm. And while I have nothing against the BBC moving away from RP voices, the accent when combined with said delivery just does not work.

The most surprising thing is that sometimes, she seems physically unable to speak clearly enough - at least twice this evening during junctions she sounded as if her throat was sore - announcing into Sport Mastermind earlier, toward the end of the script I thought she was about to lose her voice! If she naturally struggles, that's not good at all.

I'm just confused at how she has been given these positions on both of the BBC's main channels when, IMHO, her fellow announcers comparatively are on a different level. Confused

I'll put it bluntly - she sounds dull and common. I know that's harsh and it might have been her life-long dream to become a BBC announcer and everything, but her voice is more suited to Five. The thing is, I've only heard her once - on BBC One - and yet I know exactly who everyone's talking about. That's how much she stands out.

She seems to be forever losing her voice.

She ends up having to miss out words, and on occasions i've heard her cough.

Very unprofessional.

Not to mention all the other problems....

Just to add some clarity, although it may confuse the debate even further, there are in fact TWO new female announcers on network BBC 1 and BBC 2 right now.

Perhaps the Beeb could do a swap with Five, and have Trish Bertram.

I rarely get the opportunity to watch television (am awaiting the hand on my shoulder asking me to give back my key to the TVF executive toilet). Any chance of hearing her dulcet tones?

Won't that cause some sort of stereo feedback effect?

lol - may be that's the problem!

Seriously though... I recognise references to both of the new girls in this thread.

I can see (or rather hear) what some people are complaining about... but I would say, give them a few months to settle in... let them find their writing style and perfect their delivery. Announcing isn't as effortless as most experienced announcers make it appear.

I think the C4 announcers are far superior. I don't know how Phil Vowels ever got the job..

That's what I thought when I listened to BBC2 last night and she seems better than the other one that introduced Top Gear by saying, 'and now on BBC1.'

I do wonder if it's nerves, over time she might improve. But I'm surprised she got the gig at this stage in time as she's a bit rough around the edges and not quite the finished article yet.

Does anyone else find it amazing how there were literally tens of very creditable announcers across ITV's regional bases, and yet hardly any of them have transitioned to national duties, meanwhile sub-standard personnel like this new announcer make it straight to BBC1?

Could the regional people really have all just retired? Baffling. I know it was a while ago now but even so.

Come back Maggie Mash, all is forgiven.

Incidentally, a couple of nights ago (I think on Sunday) the announcer on BBC2 didn't sound well at all - she was croaking a lot and coughing.

Are BUSY BEE so stingey they can't provide water for their staff?
