whenever i see a ITV2 add on UTV it always seems to be part of the add break, i could be wrong, would ITVplc pay to get adds on UTV?

SMG is slightly different, IIRC it has a deal with ITV that allows SMG to promote ITV2, ITV3 and ITV News, this all happened last year when SMG sold their 25% stake of GMTV to ITV.
Where as UTV would rather not know, as they have nothing to do with ITV2 as they sold off their bit to ITV and have nothing to do with ITV3 and ITV News at all. It was like the days when UTV wouldn't allow The ITV Sport Channel to transmit on DTT in Northern Ireland.

Don't forget that SMG and ITV are not competitors, and can happily reach mutually beneficial arrangments. Wheras there is effective competeition between UTV and ITV over revenues fom the RoI where ITV holds 50% of TV3.

I'm a bit confused about that. Aren't UTV a part of the ITV network, so how can they be competitors?

I understand that but, as UTV is part of the ITV1 network, they have to follow whatever ITV say.
