Just seen this on Twitter:

I'm actually a little bit emotional.

Are CRTs still used for much else there?

Hadn't thought about that being a side-effect of this week's moves.

Assuming there is a shiny new replacement (or maybe just distributing the new Morpheus HUDs?) as the regions will still need it.

Sorry if I've missed something, but what has moved this week?

Lots of English regions still have all-CRT monitor stacks and CRTs in edits. They were standard when the SD facilities were installed - and the only reason to replace them with LCDs will have been if they fail.

(You still find CRTs in a few HD OB trucks too...)

I think it was mentioned a long time ago here so I'm ok to say it - the new playout contract means new suites. Everything's been finally moving this week, shouldn't be anything noticeably different on air.

It's quote common now to not see any CRTs anywhere but not that long ago they were the only way to do quality monitoring so you'd find at least one in a facility for that purpose (some would probably say they're still the only way)

I saw CRTs in use this week in the R&D labs of a well known manufacturer of ‘glue’ and cross converters. There’s absolutely no chance of display generated motion aretfacts when using a CRT, quite important given their business!

Interesting - does anyone know whether CRTs are still made?

I honk they must be as prisons seem to order new ones. Some private prisons have moved over to non-freeview LCDs.

If they are still made, than they'll have outlived plasma TVs, which were a newer technology!

Eventually even traditional LED TVs might be superseded by OLED.

It looks like regions started to move to the replacement for Presfax last year, like Leeds in June

Note the 4:3 CRTs in the gallery despite the building operating in 16:9 from day one.
