Thanks for stating the obvious.

I can't help thinking they missed an opportunity by not having the set done up to look like an old people's home. O'Connor could be sitting in a wheelchair with a blanket over his legs and each guest would be a visitor to the old peoples home. I only saw the start of this programme but it looked like each guest brought him a present anyway, so they were half way there. The clips could have been presented as O'Connor's fading memories of his youth. It would have added something and make it look different to his old chat shows.

Nice of them to give Des a send-off though, and whilst he's still with us. I take it he's not planning any more TV ? It seemed a bit final.

My understanding was, that the show was just to celebrate 50 years of Des being on television? Unless I'm missing something?

It was a double celebration of his 80th birthday and 50 years in showbusiness. It wasn't a send-off.

The fact was they had Rhod Gilbert on for a normal interview, no present as far as I can recall or no old clips, made it feel it wasn't just some send off.

I suspect Des would do more work if it were offered, but I doubt he'd do a daily show again be that a pre-recorded all year round gameshow or something like Des and Mel.

I'm sure he'd do a Des O'Connor Tonight show type thing if he was offered by either ITV, Channel 5 or UKTV.

It's kinda like the show BBC One had for Brucie's 80th, and he's been going strong since.

Did anyone see it?

Apart from the extra clips, why did it feel like an extended edition of his old 'Tonight' show?

By the way is Itv making all non drama at the old Lwt studios now, or does it just feel like it?(apart from the likes of X Factor etc!)

Is the old Granada studios used at all for Light Entertainment now?

I only saw the beginning but heard him mention how familiar he was with the studios and crew.... even though he virtually lived at Teddington Studios for the last 20 or more years of his career
