The intro to tonight's Corrie included a sensitively voiced pointer for the 8pm programme about the Chinese cockle gatherers who tragically drowned in Morecambe Bay ..... ..... all accompanied by visuals of Mark Austin and Mary Nightingale smiling and laughing on one of those bright and jolly ITV1 idents. As luck would have it, they went from smiling to actual laughter, just as the CA sounded at his most serious. Embarassed

That's the trouble with crap idents, they sometimes don'tsuit the mood for sensitive announcements. That's why idents of old were much better at covering all aspects of announcements.

However, I believe there is a relatively sombre ITV1 ident featuring clouds somewhere. Maybe that should have been used instead?

even the ident that appears just before the news would have worked better than the "celeb" idents Rolling Eyes

You see it on the BBC sometimes though - jolly programme preceded by jolly symbol ... unfortunately the announcer has been told to talk about something on later that's all doom and gloom.

You'd never have that problem in the balloon's day!

Yeah, yeah, quit living in the past, I know... Smile

I suppose there would some that were more appropriate for 'sensitive' announcements than others though - and of course several were never broadcast because they were deemed a bit racy..!

The surely it's at the channel directors discretion to select a suitable ident?
