This just has to be the most sumptuous television event of the year, brilliant production, direction and sound, in a venue thats so plush.

It's my Christmas / New Year favourite year after year. Thankfully the whole caboodle is repeated on BBC FOUR at 7pm.

I'd love to be there but seeing it in HD would be really good as well.

Chris.

Yes, I agree and the music from Strauss is always pleasant to listen to.
This is a good way to get into classical music if you want to test the water.

It was on HD-5 in HD apparently. (Not HD-1 because it was regionally blocked to exclude Germany)

Indeed, it was very enjoyable - though I do object to the Vienna Phil's sexist recruitment policy! Only four women... and that's progress!

Indeed, they've only allowed women in the orchestra at all in the last few years!

I agree that this has to be one of the best things on Television over New Year. I've watched it for many years now and always enjoy it. ORF always produce fabulous coverage of it and I think produce it in Dolby Digital 5.1. I've a DVD-Audio disc of one of their concerts from few years ago and the sound is absolutely wonderful.

Happy New Year to all TVFers...
