The Wheel of Fortune cue dot has been on all episodes so far but only at the end, not end of part one. I am surprised it works as a cue dot, it's not overly prominent and the animation is more subtle than the usual black and white flasher. Maybe by 1988 the end cue dot was less important that the middle one anyway. They were back to normal cue dots by 1989, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjZmdGWWSSU. Maybe Carole Smilie insisted on it. The only 1988 episode I have found on Youtube is this Christmas special, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQoEjGGw9gY, but the picture quality is so bad, I can't make out the cue dot anyway..

Regular cue-dot, starts at 23:30 in that video.

Something similar happened at the end of the Krypton Factor this morning. Gordon said his goodbye and they cut in to the credits. I assume what was cut was the advertisement for applicants for the next series or something but this was the 1993 group c final episode and there wasn't a series in 1994.

There was probably going to be a series in 1994 but it never happened. I always presumed ITV had done its usual thing of wanting a total relaunch of something that had been on the air for forever and a day and use the failure of the relaunch as an excuse to kill the show off. After all, 1995 wasn't just a rebrand of Krypton, it was a total demolish and rebuild job.

Thank you for bothering to check. That episode was actually shown on Challenge[TV] this evening complete with Wheel of Fortune cue dot, so it was obviously put on sometime after the original broadcast. I doubt Challenge[TV] or any channel in this country would worry about showing a programme with cue dots. I wonder if it was done for some other market. Are 1988 episodes of the UK version of Wheel of Fortune popular anywhere else in the world?

That Christmas episode is also notable for Angela Ekaette wearing over one million pounds worth of jewellery for some reason. This meant that two Group 4 security guards were also featured on the show, albeit in non-speaking roles.

According to the EPG, it is Ms Ekaette's last episode on Monday (and Carol Smillie's first straight afterwards) and if the voice over at the end of that YouTube video is accurate, it is another celebrity special with Linda Lusardi, Cheryl Baker and Duncan Goodhew, so that should be good.

Also of note, the first episode of Wheel of Fortune shown this evening (not the Christmas special) only had a £2000 jackpot rather than the usual £3000. There was also no car, just a speed boat and the other main prize was a new bathroom. Each prize much lower in value than normal. The Christmas special had a £5000 charity jackpot.

Has Challenge acquired all 4 series of the 90's Celebrity Squares? Just noticed that they are now showing series 2...

That was an incredibly bizarre episode of Treasure Hunt. What was with the number combo, which didn't appear again before or after? That said, the entire first series is just odd - particularly with the timings. You have extremes like the Greenwich episode where the hunt is finished with a ridiculous amount of time to spare, then in the pulled Speyside episode there was no way they'd stand a chance of doing that hunt in 45 minutes, with way too much time being spent in the helicopter.

Yes. I believe I predicted such a thing... http://www.tvforum.co.uk/forums/post891178#post-891178
And you accused me of 'taking the pee'.

I see that Series 2 of Wheel of Fortune has the Wheel of Fortune cue dot before the break and before the end. It's still a mystery why someone would bother to put these cue dots on. I notice it actually just says "of Fortune", the word 'Wheel' is not on the logo. I think Challenge[TV] said that the tapes for Wheel of Fortune come over from America. Who owns them and did they make the new cue dots?

I thought STV would have owned them since they made the programme in conjunction with Action Time. The cue wheels look like they are original as well...

It's in the "CBS Paramount Television" library (which may now be called something else), distributed by Sony Pictures Television.

Their logos were burned on to the end of the John Leslie era episodes Challenge were showing up to last year.

NOTE, STV still own the rights to Wheel of fortune in the UK. Why there dont hold the tapes is somewhat bizarre.

As per the post at the top of this page, the Wheel of Fortune cue dots don't seem to have appeared on the original broadcast. I'm sure they would have been a well known talking point on this forum if they had been broadcast in 1988/1989.

The credits list all kinds of other companies who have a stake in various parts of the Wheel of Fortune format, including Walt Disney. I imagine the rights are quite complicated.

I stand by that prediction. Watch this space.
