I like what they've got... and no disrespect to David Lowe, but I think the title sequence and the music could be better.

i feel bad for David Lowe, he's had to remix his bbc news themes so many times and also make sure they stand out at the same time.

Can anyone explain what the point is of pre-recording an intro sequence? Is it so that the gallery can concentrate on the first bits after the intro, without having to worry about doing the headlines? The only ones I know that pre-record are the BBC regions and the BBC Four News (not sure about "The World", but I presume they've kept it the same).

Well most ITV1 news programmes' headline sequences are pre-recorded AIUI... As is Newsnight's quite often.

The reason that most BBC regions pre-record is that many are still tape-based, and the headline sequences require lots of short bits of tape, meaning that all the VTRs are in use, leaving none-free for the top story etc. The other reason is that headlines are often pretty complex, requiring lots of concentration, lots of bits of the vision mixer (and there is a high cock-up potential) Given that the opening of a show is your chance to showcase the programme ahead - why take the risk of a cock-up if you can guarantee a clean recorded opening?

On the other hand it is very rare for the BBC One/Six/Ten to pre-rec their headlines - and going live gives you the most flexibility for late script and order changes... It also keeps everyone on their toes!

Okay, my question is, with these new titles, what presedence did those ring things (below) play in BBC News at all?

So if you're watching on satellite channel 944, do you get the weather for London at quarter to the hour, or the filler ? Smile

Have just answered my own question ... and it's on News 24 as well of course.

Has anyone got captures of the Six and Ten's opening titles?

Ten Opening: High Q (~1.5Mb) | Low Q (~0.5Mb)

Sorry, I missed the Six, but for anyone who wants to see the One opening titles: High Q (~2.5Mb) | Low Q (~0.7Mb)

*sigh* he feels sorry for him because there's only so much you can do with the BBC Corp Music, although he's getting asked to mix a lot.

But it was him who devised the BBC News style, and yet with both sets of music for the national, regional, News 24, BBC World he has been able to maintain their themes, as well as keep a consistent style and several revisions over the years.

The man certainly had a vision when he thought up the style, and is showing even now, how flexible it is.

I don't think they are going to change the headline bed. Surely if they were going to, they would change it at the same time as the titles. Or is it going to be spread out over a year again !!! New headline bed in July, new graphics in December etc.

I know that this was not a re-launch on the same scale as N24 or ITVN

It's not a relaunch at all. The relaunch was last year

You can clearly see on the One today that the opening titles are red, BUT on the plasma they have orange in them. The globe is orange, as is one of the swirls. Esentially on the plasma it is the News24 titles, but with 1/6/10 on it.
