I dont reackon Neighbours will last much longer - its had it day and like someone else said earlier in this thread less people watch it now than in the 1980s/early 1990s when it was at its peak. The BBC would probabaly replace the lunchtime showing with Doctors from 1.45pm-2.15pm and then have their usual drama like Murder she wrote from 2.15-3.10 and then have CBBC from 3.10-6pm.

Well the BBC is more or less keeping neighbours going now, it peaked in Australia a long time ago. If the BBC were ever to stop showing, it's cancellation in Australia would almost certainly follow soon after.

haven't actually seen some of the earlier Simpsons episodes actually, I;ve only started being a fan in the past year or so, but the "all-new"

I think The Simpson's fate has allready been confirmed. IIRC, there is 1 series in the pipeline to be shown in america (after the one they are showing now) and then 1 more has been comissioned after that, so there are only a couple of years worth of new episodes left.

What I also found amazing about the first season is how many episodes in it which I thought came from later in the series were actually made there. If it wasn't for the lower quality animation, the first series would be the best, and it certainly has some of the best writing.

BBC Television won't take it off air, as it is still popular. And for as long as it is being shown in England, it should remain healthy in Australia. It still must be attracting lots of young people around the world, and the neighbours.com web site will be relaunched soon to coinside with new titles next month.

From Feb 20th Neighbours gets a new look. The house shots are back in the closing credits (1980s type) but the BBC are doing their split screen promo thing. So we won't really see Ramsay Street. Just a promo for Holby City or the BBC's new Neighbours site.

Pretty crap really. Sad

OMG, You're kidding about the Split Screen? They look so bad. I can't believe they're going to do that! Sad

Good about the houses back in the credits.

According to the Neighbours Team on Erinsborough.com, the Credits are coming later in the year, around March! Confused: Confused: Confused:

It's stupid enough that the BBC get their own edit of the credit music, but having their own edit to fit in with their ECP style is ludicrous. It's not like BBC1 regualrly show ECP's anyway! The only shows ATM that have BBC1 ECP style credits are EastEnders, Casualty and Holby anyway. I will also expect on Neighbours they will use innapropriate ECPS on sad/tense epsiodes just liek with EastEnders- whenever EE ends on a sad/tense moment, the ECP is always for a sitcom or action film.

I knew this would happen. The 5.35pm junction and end credits has for a long time been a plug for primetime programmes - I can't remember the last time Neighbours was given a proper introduction. ECPs for the programme doesn't surprise me. Wonder if anyone on E.com remembers the BBC One ECP-style Neighbours credits video I once mocked?!

Can't see the Beeb getting rid of it. It still pulls the punters in, they have a lot of influence in storylines and it gets good ratings against other shows (remember the effort they put in to trails when Crossroads first started). Can't see much else being appropriate for the 5.35pm slot.

So is it only the credits getting a new look? Not the opening titles as well? Confused

If Neighbours was axed in Oz, do you think that the BBC would continue to pay to have it made? It could even become "A BBC Co-production"...

Titles and credits.

Someone mentioned earlier that Neighbours is only being kept on in Australia because it's screened here, that may have been true say 18 months ago but the Australian ratings are the highest they've been for a decade at the moment.

I think it's good for it's time slot and does very well considering that the BBC reschedule it at the drop of a hat and make little effort to maintain viewers etc.

Currently gets around 6 to 7 million viewers (3.8 million at teatime)... so it still rates really well. At teatime ITV only gets half that number (according the the numbers before the Christmas disruptions to the shcedules).

Its doing well in Oz.... this year the BBC is getting involved in storylines too - theres a big "social action" campaign coming this year across a lot of BBC1 programmes and Neighbours will be doing a related story at the same time.

Relations between the Oz producers and the Beeb have always been pretty good.

Neighbours could easily survive on Austrlian television if the BBC eicided not to show it anymore in the UK. It's one of Channel Ten's top rating shows and like has been said before, is on a ratings high at the moment. It started on Channel Seven originally, but only lasted a while before it was axed because of poor ratings. Channel Ten deceide to take it on then, where it has performed really well for them. Seven the went on to make Home and Away which is also on a ratings high in Austrlai at the moment. I'd say that if Channel Ten ever axed Neighbours, Channel Seven might pick it up again, or possibly Channel Nine.
