How are movies handled on ITV?

Well, five years ago ITV had the perfect schedule for post-watershed movies and dramas until the stupid MPs got involved.

Then two years later a flexible schedule was introduced - but this wasn't satisfactory either!

The irony is that I think of the three eras of late News programmes since 1999, the original Nightly News was the best performing programme.

Yeah. A regular news programme at 11 appealed to those that wanted the news before going to bed, or when returning home from the pub.

The only fault that I had with it was the fact that many a time it started late, and I do like the fact that the 10:30 always starts at 10:30, and does rule the schedules.

The only fault I have is with films and programmes like the Frank Skinner Show.

The only way around this that I can see around the movie problem is to have movie premieres on Saturday Nights, though with Parkinson wanting a 10pm slot, I can't see it happening.

A sensible, obvious idea - but they didn't do that before they originally axed News at Ten - and aren't doing it after they axed the second News at Ten.

Also, when they do screen movies on a Saturday night, they split them for the news at 11pm rather than showing the bulletin beforehand - which would only delay the film by 15 minutes.

One thing ITV should do is introduce a regular Midnight Movie strand, screening movies uninterupted at midnight (or 12.07am in ITV time!). As no ads generally run after midnight, this could easily be done - and indeed has been done a couple of times.

Yeah they have a few movies, and even though they have no adverts they still have to interupt them to show some ITV trailers, which I don't understand at all.
With prime time premieres I can understand as they get revenue from them, but if they aren't airing adverts anyway, why bother?

Well, Parkinson finishes next week and I'm a Celeb begins on Nov 21st, so it's possible a couple of movies will be squeezed in on Saturday nights before Christmas - and then hopefully ITV1 will use the more flexible Christmas schedule to screen movies uninterupted by news.

Scary Movie was on ITV2 tonight and at 23:03 the announcer said that the movie will return after a quick break for some showbiz news! This was announced whilst the film was still on-air then a few minutes later the film had a break and a caption where the announcement SHOULDVE palyed but didnt!

The showbiz report was only about one minute long and didnt seem worth mentioning - it couldve easily just replaced two promotions either side of the advert break.

Not very good, obviously, as the subtitles and dialogue in the scary movie are completely out of sync. By miles.

ITV2 have completely the wrong attitude to the Entertainment news.
Personally I'd have proper news updates on the hour from ITV News, as I'd like to know proper news not whether Britney's divorced or married again. Then do like BBC Three did and have a Showbiz News programme whether it be in the form of Entertainment Today (that they occasionnally show), entertainment now (that I wouldn't mind seeing as it's very sarcastic and tongue in cheek, a live daily version of that show may be worth it), or a completely new format.

Then also use the escape clause of not screening the news through movies as channel 5 used to, and so did BBC Choice with 60 seconds as it was an additional segment added that wasn't required, until it came to BBC Three.
