Meridian is moving its South East news centre, currently based in New Hythe, to The Maidstone Studios, where programmes such as ITV kids show Ministry of Mayhem is made.

The bureau will occupy 3,000 square feet within the studio centre and will act as the main base for the editor, senior editorial staff, reporters, craft editors and camera crews for its South East sub-regional service.

South East news presenters will moved to a different studio in Whiteley in Hampshire by the end of the year where they will be joined by presenters from across the region.

An additional news bureau in Ashford is still being looked for.

The new bureau at Vinters Park in Maidstone, where the former TVS franchise was based, will be equipped with two craft edit suites and Avid desktop editing.

Meridian managing director Lindsay Charlton said: "Whilst we have looked at other premises, the Maidstone Studios has always been my preferred option and I am sure the decision will be popular with the news team."
