I think what London Lite and Super Dave have said is totally right, starting later (say 4pm) means more money can be spent on better programming as audiences are generally much lower before that time anyway. Less is more and all that...I agree with whoever said about News being an ideal filler for at least 3 bulletins a night (1 and a half hours). It means the audience have more choice when they want to watch a local bulletin.

BCTV...sounds like a channel for Birmingham City...no wonder I don't think much of it (I'm Villa all through the way through). Seriously though dreadful name, poor image/presentation and a lack of schedule are not exactly engaging to viewers.

It's also too similar to the local community radio station Big City Radio.

I'm really disappointed that BCTV Are having scheduling problems already - is it just news getting replaced with other programmes or is it affecting other scheduled programmes too?

I think they only have Bob Hall as the news bod and he's knocking on a bit so its a bit tough on him to do all day, also there's not that much news

they would be better off doing a 30 min breakfast news, a 5 min round up on the hour every hour (they have other presenters that could do that) then a 30 min at team time and 30 min late evening.

And someone put a clock on the wall, this morning Bob did a time check which was "for all you going to work or school the time will be 7:09 in 4 seconds.....(pauses for 4 seconds)...and thats now " Confused

The whole presentation needs to be re-worked though, its so dated, the previous bidded City TV at least did have a modern sharp feel to their presentation.

Also Bob Hall seems to be using a walkie talkie ear piece rather than a proper talk back one very odd!

Its a Bluetooth earpiece isn't it?
Makes him look like a limo driver who has come inside to read a couple of items of news, whilst waiting for his next pick up call.

just watched the 2pm news update, and it was a pre-record from earlier this morning, so did not update the latest news on the discovery in Bristol this morning which is really bad and they ended the bulleting with i'll be back at noon,

Personally they shouldn't be putting out recorded new updates as its shoddy and misleading

Don't think the earpiece is Bluetooth, it's just standard ear buds. Mike Prince didn't bother to hide the wire on Sunday afternoon when he read a bulletin.

More Big Centre TV schedule randomness. 'Love that Car' is on instead of the 5.30pm news.

Big Centre TV are giving new meaning to 'News at When' here. Rolling Eyes

Considering how many times we've heard the likes of Jeremy Hunt quote the US model (despite this being nothing like the US model) it's surprising how there is so little focus on news with these channels - it's easy schedule filler.

It's really costly, and they are so inadequately resourced. I can't speak for them all, but many of these services don't really cover the main stories properly. Some of them don't even have pictures and can't cover basics like weather & travel.

Costly maybe - but also if it is costly then surely they have to get the most out of it too. I do think to a 15-minute bulletin is better than a padded out 30 minute bulletin, though that can cause some scheduling issues. There are times of the day where they could get away with looping the bulletin in say an hour-long slot but it's a tricky one for them as you'd imagine local news might be one of the main drivers to these channels, so they need to get them hanging around for local programming rather than sending them elsewhere by repeating the content.

They seem to be having short 2 minute news bulletins, although I caught the one at 8pm and not only did it have at least one national story (about the murder in Bristol) but she started by saying that it was the afternoon bulletin

Surely the first rule of pre-records is you make sure you have no time reference. The second should be you don't push your luck - if you're running pre-recorded bulletins in the evening at least record them after the 5.30pm edition. I think this is the common practice on the Aussie networks, running pre-recorded one minute updates in primetime, though presumably with the ability to update if needs be, which Local TV probably wouldn't have at the moment.
