They do need to remember the primary purpose is to serve the city of Birmingham today though and not to be a place for TV nostalgia. Ultimately it is all about balance - definitely a place in the schedules for a bit of nostalgia here and there but it shouldn't be the main selling point of the channel.

Yes, the point is to represent the locality and what I've seen so far it's more suited to a more rural area than a forward looking metropolitan city.

However the brief glimpse of a schedule in the promo does reveal that it's not all nostalgi. a We shall see

Wow...that Test transmission is shocking. I wouldnt think thats the UKs 2nd largest city looking at that. To me the programming they highlighted looked fine for a weekend late night nostalgia block at after the late news. I dont get the name of station. BIG CENTRE...sorry thats just odd. Who thought that was good? The logo is supposed to be retro but not in good way. Eeeek. Then they clearly "borrow" London Live promos animations. It was all just odd and very strange and not cohesive. Could it be SheffieldLive 2.0 Lets hope not.

Big being the largest town in the Midlands, and Centre being in Central England.

I think its odd......brainstorm.... MIDLANDSTV, MIDLANDS CHANNEL, MIDTV, BRUMTV, BIGTV, CENTRETV, CENTRECHANNEL,, BCTV, MLTV, SECONDCITY..... just quickly off the top of my head. But maybe its the combination of the outdated logo and the mouthy title. Something not quite right IMO.

You (well, I do) subconsciously read the logo as 'Central' as it zooms out. Some
might say that's a very clever deliberate act, but I suspect it's accidental

Gosh it sounds just awful.

I'm sure the applause from the seven-strong audience won't sound dreadful at all.

We tried our best, I'm sure they will sort the sound out with some overdubs. It wasn't very well publicised to be fair and I only found out about it last minute. It was quite an interesting pair of shows as the guests had plenty of experience in the entertainment business to share some stories from. It's not as bad as you are making out and I personally found it interesting. Yes, I agree it's not the Jonathan Ross or Graham Norton show, however, we are talking different scales of budget, so at least give Big Centre TV a chance before you write them off.

But did the show have any local flavour at all?

An interview with Chris Perry from Big Centre TV.

In summary:

David Hamilton's show is commissioned on the premise of selling it to other local channels.
Big Centre have the largest studio in local tv with a capacity of 400 seats.
Kaleidoscope archive material will air.
Chris Perry believes that local tv will work and says that ITV merging it's regions was a "big mistake"

I think that's a good idea, although it means the programmes will need to be less local than they would be otherwise. I've always thought that one good revenue stream for local TV is to sell content, especially news footage when something big happens in their patch

I can't see local channels rushing to buy the David Hamilton show.
