I find myself wishing the kids channels DID shut down (the pre-school ones at least), it can be a nightmare getting the younger members of my family to bed, or even letting us change to channel to watch something we want to watch in the evening, when the kids channels are still running and they know there's programmes they want to watch coming up. When I have a nephew and niece obsessed with Paw Patrol and PJ Masks it can be hell, tantrums galore. At least if they closed down you'd be able to say there's nothing else on, so that's that.

Very true. But then you also have the argument of on demand. I know a friend has had trouble as their child just wants a particular programme on loop.

Back in the day there was a set time, you tuned in to watch the programmes when you could, clearly we have to embrace technology, but we will have to wait to see how this affects generations in the future.

Nick Jr use to close down at 10pm ending with Bob the Builder then a loop of the cat ident was used for the rest of the night.

Does anyone remember this closedown loop from the mid-2000's?:

Back when Cartoon Network went 24 hours on cable sometime in 2000, I almost made the mistake telling a younger relative who i was visiting that Cartoon Network was 24 hours. I bit my tongue quickly and told them it finishes at 7pm (It still did on ye-olde style sky) which is what i had at home. I was hounded with "are you sure" several times by the younger relative before they were dragged off to bed shortly afterwards.

It finished at 9 on the old analogue cable/Sky, I used to watch it loads back in 1999/2000! I think Nickelodeon finished at 7 though.

Yeah, as did Fox Kids. CN shared with TNT and later TCM, Nick shared with Paramount Comedy, and FK with Sky 2 for it's first year and then National Geographic. A few years earlier, TCC used to finish at 5pm, handing over to Family Channel.

Wasn't there a brief stint of a CBBC strand on Nickelodeon or am I imagining things?

I actually have memories of TCC sharing with a Japanese channel (which was encrypted most of the time, but not all of it), that must have been before the Family Channel launched!

Disney Junior is shared with multiple countries, Nick Jr is the most popular and CBeebies DOES shut down.

Does BBC1 shut down when it hands over to the BBC News Channel? Wink
