Football has gone from being the peoples game and turned into big business offering way over inflated wages to players and spending money they simply don't have.

And they simply don't have it because...?

Because a poorly managed TV company isn't paying them, that's why they simply don't have their money.

Yes, you're right, football clubs are paying their players too much, but the blame here lies with ITV Digital for having little foresight and pathetic management.

Does anyone else think the ITV brand has been seriously damaged by the ITV Digital fiasco? Joe and Joanne Public will throw mud at ITVD and it will stick to ITV1 as well. Anyone fancy a return to not mentioning ITVanything for a few years whilst people forget how ITV made x (enter number of your choice) football clubs go bankrupt (even if they were going to anyway!!!)

No I don't.  I think inevitably this had to happen, and I am sensing a backlash for the greedy clubs actually.  The football bubble has burst, even my Dad who is an ardent football fan says that the clubs are as much to blame in this.  Football has gone from being the peoples game and turned into big business offering way over inflated wages to players and spending money they simply don't have.

Take for instance David Beckham (yes I know it's the Premier League). David Beckham earns £70,000 a week, nobody deserves to earn that much money a week, least of all a footballer.  It would take me 4 years to earn that much money, and I work damn hard for it.  He can earn it in a single week, regardless of whether he plays a game or not.

It's time the TV companies stopped bankrolling these football clubs, these footballers and their agents, the game should be give back to the people.  At last, hopefully sanity will prevail in football, starting now.

And so speaks the person who has no clue what he's talking about.

The simple fact is that the clubs ITV Digital have hurt through their own incompetence (no-one asked them to pay more than they could afford, and you cannot blame the League for accepting the best offer as it stood, thinking Granada and Carlton were reputable companies) are those clubs which don't pay their players heaps of money. In fact many of these clubs in the lower divisions probably pay their players less than you earn! [edit; on reading your post again it would seem considerably less -- many players are earning as little as 125 pounds a week, or around 7 grand a year].

These are community clubs which often provide work to other small companies in the area. To call these firms, who generally have been living hand-to-mouth for as long as anyone can remember, 'big business' is laughable. Remember it's not Manchester United, or even Manchester City, that'll be going bust here. It's Burnley, or York City.

So in your call for football to be returned to the people, you overlook the fact that ITVD's financial insanity is sending the football that still is part of the people to the wall. Irony, what a wonderful thing.

As far as I am concerned, a deal's a deal. ITVD agreed to pay the league this much money.

If someone owes me money (in business), I am not bothered about the person's circumstances. We made an agreement, I honour my agreements. If they can't pay, tough **** . I don't work for free, or do the work and get less than I agreed to do it for and be happy with it.

If someone defaults with me, I am straight after them and will issue a CCJ if necessary.

ITVD are to blame. The League were only selling their rights for a price the market supported at that time.

And I think ITV should rebrand asap to distance themselves from this farce.

Thought I'd design a new look for ITV1 again...

Ident...

Yeah yeah, it looks a bit like UK Gold, but I liked the effect. I tried to create a simple logo in a similar style to Carlton's, because the current logo looked rubbish on there.

Prime time Mopatop.

Well then, there we go, any opinions or other solutions for the current ITV1 crisis?

(Feel free to move to the mocks forum as and when it is back. Not that I needed to say that of course.)

I think that's the best GRANADA mock I've ever seen. Nice idea of the arrow, which 'points north' (and not West, because Granada own YTV which isn't) and also it fits in the with letter A which crops up three times in the word Granada.

Perhaps the animation could show each of the 'A's in GRANADA spinning copies of themselves outwards, with each A's top point fixing itself into a point in the arrow logo?

I wish I could execute what I'm trying to explain!!!

BTW About ITV's brand, I'd like them to ditch the plain letters 'ITV' and make a bit more of a symbol out of it. Rather like my mock ITV Generic 'face' logo from APFS....
