Flash-back tonight on ITV1 as The Christmas Show finishes early, forcing a live announcer to run nervously through the evening's progammes over a static programme card - at last something human on ITV1! Very entertaining!

Hmm.. Yes it was a bit of a shambles wasn't it? They said the words are on the bottom of our screens, we only get the first two lines and then they scroll the titles across the bottom of the screen! And then the Carlton endcap stayed up a bit too long to obviously fill some time and the studio sound was left up over the endcap, then there was obviously a last minute decision to bring up the menu...

Well my first thought was that the singing was so bad that somebody in transmission control involentarily faded to the end board, two minutes too early!

Overall, The Cristmas Show was a mess! The presenters didn't seem to know what they are doing even though they are used to live TV. I found the show boring, nothing special. I think Richard and Judy have nothing to worry about with ratings! Rolling Eyes
The end was a mess like the whole show, I think the show ended to early leaving the Carlton endcap on too long. The announcer seemed to struggle about filling the time and said "the evening news is next" but it wasn't it was London Tonight!
My rating of The Christmas Show: 6/10

LoveTV!! Very Happy

Ah, well the announcer would have to say something like 'your regional news programme is next...' because they did away with regional continuity! And I think he probably consciously avoided saying something so generic, because it would have sounded cold.

Something like "Next, the news in your part of the country/where you are" would have done...

Cr@p show followed by cr@p continuity...

Not sure actually - it's fine coming from a news reader going into regional news, but from a continuity announcer, I think it'd sound a bit odd.

But I do remember even when we had regional announcers, they often said 'Now the news in your region', or even 'Our region'...

Yes I suppose he could have said 'news from the region', which is what they used to say. Then it'd sound like he meant THE region - ie, your region, even though it'd actually be going out nationally.

Well I think today's show was a lot better and they ended at the right time today with better singing and they had a few more lines from the song than they did yesterday..

So maybe it was just a few teething problems yesterday! Things don't always go righr first time - that's why pencils have erasers!

Yes, today’s show was much better. I have to say, some of the show is not bad, but some is just boring. That Jeff cannot present to save his life! Eamon sometimes seems a little disinterested in some bits, while Tess just Smiles and carries on.

So, UTV don’t show this at all? Yesterday I saw they had Family Fortunes on, as they did not get them when Network showed them. I'm sure UTV aren’t really that bothered.

One last point, I don’t know if anyone else has noticed this, but I have watched this show on Scottish TV, ITV1 Granada & ITV1 London and the picture quality in the studio sometimes does not look as good as other stuff on ITV1. I don’t know if its me, or does anyone else find that?

UTV show it the following day at 2pm, due to the fact that they have their news at 5:30.

Eamonn made a point about this on GMTV yesturday saying it was a bad thing as his kids and family wouldn't be able to watch at this time.

Its getting better, a few teething problems in the first show, but todays did seem slightly better. It reminds me a bit of richard & judy, with the stuff they do and the fact that they have different areas of the set.
