Despite how it was originally billed, Main Event has occasionally ended up showing unique programming - on Thursday last, it showed Northern Ireland v Switzerland, while Mix showed Croatia v Greece and Football showed Scotland v Holland.

I assume Northern Ireland v Switzerland was available on the red button also for those without Main Event?

But plenty will go elsewhere, of course. Sky Sports Mix has also on some occasions been an "overspill" football channel, usually for the non-Anglosphere (and thus eternally damned according to Sky's basic political foundation) leagues they have the rights to, now they have artificially restricted the showing of two non-PL matches at the same time on their main channels (apart from via the red button).

I don't understand why they don't also use SS Arena and Action for overspill football.. these should be treated as "generic" Sports channels, not related to specific sports

I can understand the move made by Sky, but it's been ill-implemented

Because you can subscribe to SS Football without subscribing to SS Arena and Action, and vice versa, so by putting it on Arena or Action instead of the red button they'd be denying those viewers who don't have those channels.

Besides, SS Arena and Action have enough live content of their own with the tennis, boxing, darts, rugby, NFL, greyhounds and "wrestling".

Yes, and Croatia v Greece for good measure.

It's getting off topic here, but why can't Sky Sports UK run a kind of Extra 1, 2, 3, etc. channels like Continental European sports channels do?

Well they do just on the red button rather than the EPG.

Although no red button on Now TV, and possibly other platforms.

I realise we are drifting even further off topic, but during the time BT Sport was available on Virgin Media in Ireland, the BT Sport Extra red button services were carried as linear channels on their EPG. They don’t quite have the EPG channel scarcity that Sky does though.

Partly posted from the NOW TV thread, but also relevant to the topic:

NOW TV are removing the soon to be closed ITV Encore linear channel from 1st May - box sets are being kept (and part of the transition from linear to on demand). First hint of information given since ITV announced plans to close the channel last November. Not sure what will happen on the Sky platform, considering that massive EPG changes are being undertaken, and all channel EPG moves/launches have been halted until May.

Apparently Discovery is getting slot 125 on Sky once the reshuffle commences, so it’s likely the reshuffle has taken into account the removal of ITV Encore.

It does. 123: Sky Two

I expected Sky to use EPG 123 for one of their channels, but not Sky Two. That channel has largely been given the harsh blow when it comes to EPG reshuffles, up until now.

Well that clears it up - ITV's beleaguered pay drama channel is being killed off on the day that Sky carries out a massive EPG reshuffle. Might have to screencap the rest of the idents before it closes...and the closure too.
