HTV have managed to broadcast a whole part of a programme in full height anamorphic on their analogue service! Why dont they do this all the time and allow the viewer to decide which aspect ratio they would prefer to watch it in!

Miracilously part two was ok but the subtitles had vanished!

Probabally because 4:3 sets don't have the option to stretch to 4:3 and most dont have a 16:9 squash mode.

CMON James most modern tv's that have been sold in the last five years at least have some sort of aspect ration button on them allowing you to switch between 16:9 full height anamorphic and 4:3 pictures - even the most basic tvs have that now - whereas all widescreen and a lot of newer 4:3 televisions have loads of different aspect ration features!

Our TV has a 16:9 squash, but it is only via SCART. The black bars are plain nasty anyway, and so is anamorphic. Most new 4:3 TVs 21' and under that I've seen dont seem to even have that function.

Oh well james if you want an anamorphic picture style on a 4:3 television under 21' then i have some black tape that you can borrow!

Or if that wont do i have some anti-anamorphic glasses that squash everthing down (not recommeded to be used in the bedroom with girlfriends for obvious reasons!)

What side of bed did you get out of? I was trying to point out that few 4:3 TVs below 21' have any form of 16:9 squashing/stretching, and very few above that have more than a squash. Also, very few 4:3 viewers want letterbox or anamorphic on their screens.

But did you know that more than 50% of families in the uk now have digital tv!

Therefore a large proportion of them may still be watching digital full height anamorphic pictures on a 4:3 television and a lot of them even watch it in 4:3 pan and scan mode which is the worst thing ever invented!

Let the viewer decide how they want to watch it!

And also in five years time (or whenever the analogue transmitters are turned off) households will be subscribing to a digital transmission per house or per tv set? Which raises the point that these smaller 4:3 21' and below sets should have aspect ratio switching for when the 4:3 analogue service goes which may be sooner than we all think/hope! Wink))

50%???, I was doing some research for my project, and found the figure to be 30%, I took this figure of an official book for the year 2001!

Why are u in such a hurry to see analogue television turnt off. OK I've has SKY since 1993 but it's handy to still have the analogue services. When it does get turnt off it means more boxes, more subscriptions, more money for SKY!
