Off topic I know but, I understand that the Southern TV corporate archive (for the want of a much better word) ended up at Bournemouth (University?). They did advertise a long time ago, for applicants to sift through the material and catalogue it in such way that it would be accessible and searchable. They weren't looking for members of the public to simply throw their hats into the ring, I think it was advertised as being suitable for someone looking to undertake the work as part of a higher education package (in research I think) maybe a Phd or some such.
Someone was obviously appointed since if you search on the www you can see that someone appears to have made a stab at it. Apart from a few copies of old photos etc nothing much seems to have come of it. Very unsatisfactory I think.
I did email the pertinent department asking what the situation was, but received no reply whatsoever.
Given that the archive will most likely contain all of Southern's internal memos etc from day one, it would be nice to see the paperwork concerning the beginning of the station etc in the 1950's, you never know there might even be some memos outlining what was going on from the managements perspective on the two occasions I was involved in a 'sit in' !!
