This is decent from Scottish TV. Much better than last nights effort. Pity the ITV News Channel can't decide on what to keep on or off the screen.

The problem with the guy in those caps is the only event of the year I ever see him appearing on TV is when he gets drunk and halfnaked and stands in the rain outside some castle for a few hours in the middle of the night and starts screaming some crap about fireworks one night a year.

I'm not too sure he's very portable moving to such a less....lighthearted situation.

Well all 3 news channels are currently broadcasting live from Glasgow
News 24's got Chris Eakin with Jane and Matt in London,
Sky News has got Martin Stanford with Allan and Anna in London
ITV News Channel has got Mark Austin with presumably Leyla and Phil in London?

Good grief Barney. I seldom read you saying complimentary about anything other than shopping telly. Get a grip (and try watching Scotland Today before you talk such rubbish).

The News Channel has managed to shift the Scotland Today caption into the safe area for tonight's programme, so it is almost entirely legible on my TV

(Yesterday it said 'otland Today')

One thing that no one has mentioned and that is how did the BBC News @ 6 and Ten cover it?

Did Viewers in scotland get an extended addition of 'Reporting Scotland' either at the beginning or the end?

No they never. Because the Focus was on Glasgow and the correspondants in Glasgow would have been in demand it would have been impossible for Reporting Scotland to have had a special at 6.

The story did get slightly more extended coverage during the bulletin but the programme did feature other stories as normal.

I'm not a fan of Stephen Jardine he's a bit cocky however he has been around for years he used to be a reporter and fill in Presenter on Scotland Today in the early 90's then he went to GMTV and came back to STV about four years ago he also Presents Seven Days SMG's political programme on Sundays .

News 24 were away on a VT when the body bag was carried out at around 11.45, and didn't make any mention of it when they returned. Which was rather more tasteful than how the other two covered it.

Of course it was!

I passed Maryhill Road this morning, and stopped off near the site of the collapsed building.

It's a very strange atmosphere there. Press can get closer to the site than relatives can. I counted seven satellite trucks, three radio cars, and a big bit of scaffolding from which to present live programmes. They're using a pub as a production office.

Oh, and I heard that a local resident is being paid £2000 for having a Sky camera in their living room, which overlooks the site of the building. (A friend of mine, a wannabe journo type, was helping out the crew, and manning the 'dead body cam' for a while last night.)

So far, eight people have died. I know it's the same kind of media attention that follows any disaster - but it just seems wrong.

48 hours on and ITV News' Scotland correspondent Martin Geissler has arrived on the scene!

Presumably he has flown in from Jerusalem

Doesn't this point out to itv that they need more reporters in more locations not only in Britain, but around the world, and when the reporters go on holiday or elsewhere, they are replaced by someone in a nearby area, rather than a Scotland correspondant.
They should use regional faces more, the regional reporters are paid and are now part of the itv news group and so should be used more within the national news if a story breaks near them.
I presume that this would have been the first port of call in Glasgow if Scottish TV or even Scotland Today were part of ITV/ITV News Group.
