Signed up 2pm Friday, got my registration at half five today.
Seems ok but the amount of content (or lack of) doesn't blow me away. Why couldn't the whole thing be done like 4OD in one program rather than using your browser then switching to your Library program?
I'm running on Vista so don't know if it was because of this but my first download stayed on 0%. I paused it, exited and fired it up a couple of hours later and it was 29%. I guess that's down to KService which seemed to continually be using my bandwidth even after I'd closed the program down? That'll annoy people.
As soon as I stopped the service nothing more was sent or received.
I've been trying Iplayer for 3/4 days now..
Curious to know if anyone's started experiencing the problem I have - specifically Kservice.exe hogging CPU rather than bandwidth - it'll work 'normally' for around 30 seconds, then the next 30 seconds will consume 100% CPU, before the cycle repeats itself.
Even though I'm logged on as an administrator, because its running as SYSTEM, I can't make it low priority - and going into services and trying to make it run as me doesn't seem to work either.
If anyone's got any (useful) advice...
Incidentally, you can set Kservice to start manually if you don't want to keep having to shut it down every time you reboot your PC.
Other than that its what I'd call a "reasonable" application, but I encourage you to read the BBC Trust report if you want to understand why there are so many restrictions/limitations. Oh and I wouldn't exactly say it was ready for public release yet, either.....
My signing up > receiving the invite coincied with Asa's.
It was a pain in the backside to set up, as I had disabled my buggy IE and blocked it through the firewall. It would also have been useful if I had read the instructions more carefully. The two sets of logons confused me a bit.
Anyhoo, its working really well now. I enjoyed Little Britain and Still Game the other night. The quality is good - run via a scan converter to my TV it was indisguishable from any other video source.
I've been using the iPlayer for about a day now and I have successfully downloaded three programmes. Not to mention I've had no problems with it at all.
The only problem I must stress is that the iPlayer seems to be compatible only with Internet Explorer. I never use Internet Explorer, I use Mozilla Firefox. That means I have to use Internet Explorer exclusively for my BBC programme downloading. Oh well...

With an attitude like that, I'm surprised
you
have managed to fit in here. Was that really necessary? You seem to imply that this site is friendly, but your post tells otherwise. It's people like you who make forums reveal their nasty side and push new members away. Thanks for making my day.

You obviously didn't do your research before joining then, eh?
And for a start, don't play the innocent and upset "why'd you hurt me" pose because it just doesn't work here.
I wasn't implying at all that the forum was unfriendly, nor were you.
One thing that does need attention is the point at which new programmes are published on the iPlayer. I'm waiting for a couple of programmes - that previous episodes have been available - to appear from the weekend which is a tad annoying.
