It's hardly hardcore porn, on the large part it's quite soft titilation.

Well I wouldn't know about soft titilation, being as I'm more interested in large parts.

Nonetheless his channels have been reprimanded by Ofcom several times for broadcasting the equivalent of R-18 rated material, which can only legally be sold in sex shops, as well as "failure to protect viewers under the age of 18" by broadcasting links to associated websites showing said R-18 material without appropriate restrictions in place. And some other things, that I also learned in the Eye's dossier.

Private Eye seems very bitter about anyone that has become successful via a route that doesn't involve daddy's money or going to Oxbridge.

Well, again, I wouldn't know anything about that; but if you feel that way then naturally you should cancel your subscription immediately.

I would rather Desmond owning Channel 5 than Associated or Murdoch. They have far more blood on their hands when it comes to society.

If those were the only two options, I'd rather see it go bust. I'm certainly not about to champion Dirty Desmond's ownership on the basis of a marginal comparison.

There were very few options for the future of Five. It is hardly a sacred cow in broadcasting and never has been so I fail to understand the over-the-top scrutiny of Northern & Shell's ownership

Personally, I don't care about Channel Five - I could count how many shows I watch on the hand of a clumsy soux chef; but it does come with a prominence of being the fifth channel, and its sub channels being in the more "respectable" bracket of all EPGs, unlike his Sky 900s offerings.

I don't particularly want to see DTT space being taken up with premium pornography, which might be their intention.

Looking at what the parent company do is hardly "over the top scrutiny" - it would seem to be due diligence for Ofcom, and a reasonable topic to explore for the journalists at the Eye, and in turn, be questioned here.

My Mother bought the Star on Sunday today (her newspaper had sold out) and in the TV mag was a four page piece on "Channel" Five. Someone had stuck the word Channel onto the current Five logo which made the piece look even cheaper then it actually was.

There was nothing of interest in, just some pointless features on Five News, Matthew Wright and Jane Horrocks (who does a voiceover on a cartoon). Really looked very poor indeed, sign of things to come methinks!

It's nothing new, Desmond's brands are cross-promoted throughout every publication he owns. Channel Five will be the next brand that'll be cross promoted in OK, Daily Express, Daily Star etc while he owns it.

It'll be harder for Channel Five to cross-promote the newspapers and mags though.

It'll be interesting to see how Matthew Wright will deal with it on The Wright Stuff, they always go through the papers, and even the guest host Nihal (the Radio 1 DJ) had a right dig at the Daily Express, although that's all great for broadcasting and free speech I can't say Mr Desmond's going to be impressed, roll on tomorrow when he's back, but I really hope Matthew/TWS doesn't become ar*e licking to the Desmond empire.

Did I just see the easiest competition question ever?

Even if you didn't know you can just bring up the mini-guide which would tell you.

Oh dear - they'll probably have to cancel the comp now because people can find out the answer!

Was this during the programme - that's taking it about ten steps too far to have pop-up competitions in the middle of a drama!

These competition announcements pop up a few minutes before the end of the episode, which is pointless, as the end credits are suspended for about 20 seconds to allow a full-screen explanation of how to enter. Confused

Not a question of "not being allowed" to launch a kids (or anything similarly vanilla), simply that he's already operating a successful business model with hardcore porn.

According to Private Eye, "what does Northern & Shell announce on its website that it sees as the future of its pay-per-night porn channels? 'Digital terrestrial provides the newest opportunity for expansion'".

Seeing as TVX et al show ACTUAL sexual intercourse occurring on screen, albeit without explicit scenes of penetration, I would call that (neutered) hardcore. Softcore is simulated sex and this brand of tittilation occurs on channels like Movies24 and, ironically, late-90s Channel 5.
