I'm quite upset that the current graphics will be going. I think the channel has looked the best it ever has.
I completely agree - I don't see what benefit it will have going back to Channel 5. I highly doubt it will have anything as creative as the current idents - sure, they could blow me away, but I just can't see it happening.
This, for example, is a really creative and unique ident and they'll be lost:
The station will also revert back to its original name, Channel 5. A spokesman said: "The rebrand is being done by our in-house creative team."
From what I gather, the ident you've quoted, all their current idents and the presention on thier main channel, was also by their in-house creative team, so I'd say there's a good chance they could come up with something just as good.
The problem of renaiming the channel 'Channel 5' is that it is not on channel 5 on all platforms...
I think you'll find that they have reserved rights to 5 or 105 on all platforms.
Where have you seen it on a different number, other than the HD version?
yes exactly you have just proven my point channel 105 is not channel 5.
Someone had better tell Channel 4...
As well as BBC One, BBC Two, BBC Three, BBC Four, ITV 1, ITV 2, ITV 3, ITV 4, and virtually every other broadcaster who has a number in any of their channel names.

I see we've all heard the bad news about Channel 5 getting rid of their current idents. They are some of the best idents on TV at the moment and it'll be a shame to see them go.
I thought the original October 2008 package was superb (improved by the swift removal of the live action idents which didn't really fit) but the recent refresh that, amongst other things, saw the logo unnecessarily slanted, cheapened the look for me.
To see the logo dropped so soon after it was launched is disappointing though; it's quite an attractive mark and certainly more distinctive than the (5) logo I believe they're reverting back to?
Channel 5 might now even attempt to launch itself on Irish Cable, it's pay tv with options for ad localization. I can see UPC all over that if the channel was exclusive to cable. Here is hoping.

I always thought it looked a bit too trendy, a sort of manga cartoon type of style. It looks great outside their offices in Covent Garden, where it blends in with the trendy shops, but I've always been unsure about it on telly.

They've only said that the 'Five' branding is going and it will revert to Channel 5 or just '5'. That doesn't mean that they're going right back to 1997's branding though
I wonder what's going to happen to Fiver and Five USA... I can't see '5er' working too well.
The current Fiver branding and idents are great - what a shame it would be for them to be ditched so soon. Though it seems as if the main focus for now will be on Channel 5. I don't think I've seen anything about the digital channels mentioned by Desmond so far.
Why is he so keen to revert everything to how it was when it launched, way back in 1997? Seems odd to me. It's not as if it was a more popular channel back then.
I fail to see how changing it back to Channel 5 will make a difference. The fact that this brand is so strong but viewers still aren't flocking to FIVE shows it's not the look of the channel that's the problem; it's the programming.

No but in terms of Big Brother, I would presume Fiver would be the home of Little Brother and Big Mouth if the formats were to continue.
