Indeed.

The 1993, 1995, and 1996 looks also came with the three Sky Symphonies, where each channel got its own arrangement on the same basic orchestral theme. All fantastic pieces of music. Alas, the egg look of 1997 didn’t carry this on (the Sky One theme was particularly unmemorable) and then 1998 came along, where the Sky logo didn’t even feature in the channel logos and that would remain the case for a good few years. And Sky One’s theme became “Brimful of Asha” for a while.

I always assumed it was a satellite dish, not an egg 😳

I think the positioning of the highlight/shadow in the logo made it appear more of an 'egg' than a 'dish'.

From the corporate viewpoint, in 1998 Sky Digital used a stylised 'swoosh' on their new logo to presumably represent a dish.

I believe this was around the time when there was a possibility that Sky may have been split into two companies, one for the channels and the other as a platform. This i believe why in 1998 the channels were branded as SKY and the platform was branded as sky)

Of course the split never happened, but the difference in branding hung around for the best part of a decade.

It was the 1993 Sky Sports logo that got me interested in logos as a kid. One of my friends at school had a Sky Sports zip up pencil case.

It was the original Sky Sports and their MASSIVE font that first got me interested in Sky and their presentation.

It must have been the Ryder Cup of 1995 where the logos changed from the Saturday to a relaunch to the tombstone era on the Sunday morning. Not sure if all the graphics changed at the same point, but someone maybe able to enlighten me

The Sky egg logo had been used in corporate promotions well before November 1997. I remember when the channels were rebranded, I was disappointed by the identities of the channels themselves. Whilst the tombstones were used on all channels, they all had their own themes and looked great on screen. In hindsight whilst the branding was clear and looked smart, it didn’t do anything, the restrictions in the format were there.

I can confirm this, I have one of the first Sky blank tapes dated 1996, when the tombstone idents received their second versions, and it has the egg logo on the sleeve, which became the main logo for the channels from November the following year.

Indeed I do.

Also what peaked my curiosity were the three modifications to Sky's corporate logo after the launch of Sky Digital in October 1998. The first satellite swoosh logo, designed by Pittard Sullivan, abandoned all previous connections to the Sky family of logos since 1984, which also consolidated the separate logo design for the channels, introduced for Sky One the previous May.

However... in the Autumn of 1999, Sky's wordmark received a new design, which looks vaguely similar to all Sky logos from 1984-1996, except in lowercase. The satellite swoosh was dropped in late 2000, and the yellow, blue and white colour scheme arrived around this time.

In September 2001, Sky introduced a new channel wordmark, which was basically the new logo in uppercase, however, the previous wordmark design wasn't entirely phased out until 2003.

The current logo, introduced in late 2009, is an evolution of the previous logo, with rounder edges, in order to give Sky a "friendlier" image, also this started being used for corporate and channel duties along with the previous logo for the first time since 1998.
