I know we've one or two (!) people interested in weather presenters on here, so I thought I'd mention that it's Craig's last day on Spotlight this Thursday.

They were waving his "Television Personality of the South West", RTS award around on last night's programme, but I understand there are more festivities planned for 18:30 on Thursday.

I'm told it could be well worth a watch.

Craig's replacement will be former National weatherman David Blaine, who has been filling in for Craig for much of the last year so he can get used to having more time on his hands.

I'm not sure if Craig will be continuing his small columns on the weather page of the Western Morning News - can anyone confirm?

Hehehe!

I love that typo, James.

No, he won't be presenting from a glass box; try Braine!

Details here.

It will be sad to see Craig go. He seems on form at the moment too... today he decided to start a Full Monty strip just as the end titles started rolling.

David has already settled in well though at Spotlight. Craig & David have taken it in turns to present all this year.

It's sad to see the man go, since no one except for him has ever held the position ever since spotlight started; not only is he the longest running BBC regional weather presenter, he's also the first BBC regional weather presenter, with Spotlight being the first regional programme to carry full weather forecasts.

David isn't bad, but he has some very big shoes to fill - that they felt it necessary to have a changeover period between the two highlights this.

Sad to see Craig go, but then he is well due for retirement. Supposedly he now intends to spend more time on his boat (which he's been doing for most of this year anyway - 'job sharing' with David Braine has largely seen him only do the weather once or twice a week).

Well that's a shame - I'm out of the region at uni at the moment so won't be able to see Craig's last day. I'm sure Justin and Teresa will give him a big send off.

Turnbull, if you go to the Spotlight website after 7:05pm they should have the 6:30pm main bulletin on there in RealVideo format (which might be in very bad "BBC" quality depending on your connection) and you will see Craig's last bit there...

Yes, it is a shame - I remember when I saw him on Spotlight in the past - he was quite a character. All the best to the man in the future!

Thanks James - will do. And you're right about the bad "BBC" quality connection - that's what we normally get anyway!

Well, I wasn't expecting QUITE that much.

The tribute took up best part of half the programme.

Nice to see the likes of Hugh Scully, Sheila Tracey and Chris Denham again.

Yeah great stuff, and nice to hear the old Spotlight theme theme being played again.

Brave producer too, to allow so much of the programme to be taken up by Craig's departure. I think he or she got it right though.
