When there's a G+ edit, yes there's a G+ endcap, that's the main way you can tell. The other way of noticing was that the Granada Frontcap was missing and the theme tune on the title sequence had been re-edited (not been able do to that since March 88 though, when the title sequence was re-edited so the music no longer began under the frontcap, and ITV3 themselves usually cut out the frontcap from that point).

Just to revisit the discussion on whether there would be anything unusual about the end-credits of the 21st December episode, these were identical to the Granada Plus episode, apart from the endcap.
However, it’s apparent ITV3 did re-edit that episode. The last two lines before the commercial break were cut, all because Tracy used the word “bloody”.
The cut lines:
Tracy (mimicking Roscoe): It’s all the bloody council’s fault.
Ken: And your mum’s, I suppose.
What’s so terrible about the word “bloody”? It was commonplace on TV in the 80s (as was “bitch”) but suddenly we are considered far too sensitive to hear such vernacular before the watershed!

That's always what I've presumed, it's the easiest/first version they come across. They are pulling 10 episodes a week out of the archive, I guess they don't always have time to search for the full version. G+ showed these episodes around 2000/01 after all, it's highly unlikely the uncut tapes have gone missing since then. I imagine it's possible G+ edits could still turn up until we hit Feb/March 94 (I'm wondering how many episodes G+ had prepared in advance that were never broadcast due to the abrupt shutdown).
Not sure how that explains how a few G+edits ended up on the Network DVDs though, considering how thorough Network usually are about that sort of thing. Though as I've pointed out, it's not the same episodes- with all the episodes ITV3 have shown so far where the G+ edits ended up on DVDs, they've shown the original (with one case, the Xmas Day 87 episode, being the reverse).
Strange how the Xmas 88 episode feels almost like two totally different episodes bolted together, the first half being the dramatic hostage story, the second half being very light hearted about the rest of the street's christmas. It's very much a mood change!
Was the 1977 Ogdens Second Honeymoon episode the Granada Plus edit on the Dvd? I seem to remember it was but its been a while since ive watched it. That episode is often used for classic corrie clips with the "woman Stanley woman" scene. You would think that is one episode they would have had the original for.
I think the Christmas 1988 worked well. And far better and less dragged out being only half an hour, these days it would be an hour.
Oh well 1988 is over, onto 1989 tomorrow. Aside from the golden Corrie era 1976-1984, I think 1989 is my favourite year in the shows history.

I wonder what the reason for that is James, I guess on occasions the Granada Plus edited version is the easiest version of the episode to find? Although apparently every full episode of Corrie exists.

Yes it is. In fact it's the earliest episode that ended up on the DVDs as a G+ edit.
Only 2 G+ edits ended up on the 70s DVDs, but quite a few did on the 80s. None on the 90s, thankfully.
