Reminds me of a storyline back in the 90s where a couple of the characters were taking Jamie Armstrong to see a football match and he was all hyped up thinking it was Manchester United... then gutted to find out it was only Wetherfield County.
Weatherfield County has the one and only Tommy Orpington though!
There's only one...Tommy O! There's only one...Tommy O!
When he's walking along, singing this song, walking in a cobble wonderland...
It was lucky that Ted died on Friday. He timed that well.
It meant that Gail could go to London and back to learn of the (at least) £138,000 that he happened to leave her. She managed to have all the bank dealings and his estate admin completed in time to log on to the auction as 'bidder 3' to secure the house, just after the other two bidders happened to have disconnected from the site.
And there was still time to sort out the keys with Annie Lennox and move in.
He died on Friday and all this was done by Monday afternoon.
Busy weekend for Gail! Maybe she organised Ted's funeral and buried him too...
I’m surprised no one has mentioned the ITV3 episodes this week, as the 1997 cull/change takes shape. We’ve seen the last of Bill Webster and Maureen Holdsworth. We’ve got Mavis and Don Brennan by the end of the week and Percy Sugden next week.
Seeing the story about John Lindsay working in the tie shop at the airport on ITV3, I find it amusing as Ken's supposedly spotted him while picking passengers up, but that part of the airport for anyone that knows the airport is on the airside part of Terminal 2 (or at least that part's airside now, maybe it wasn't in 1997), so Ken would have had no way of getting to it if he wasn't catching a flight. I know it's very anal...

I remember Mavis's departure very well. The end of the proper Classic Corrie era for me. Its a shame that Thelma Barlow has never wanted to return even for a guest appearance.
This is when the programme started getting younger in terms of cast members and production style. It needed to get younger, as you notice now that there were so many older characters versus younger ones, and looking back, Park's shake-up injected a modern, fresher life into it.
This must be about the point that Adam Rickett joined too. Don's character had run it's course.
I remember watching Dierdre finally catching Jon Lindsay out on New Year's Eve, 1997. I feel old now that they are describing that era as "classic"!
After months of seeing everyone (including characters who are supposed to be living, eating and sleeping together) standing feet apart from each other, it seems like we may be about to see our first
genuine*
non-social-distanced scenes on Monday.
I'm not too sure on how it all works but presumably they must have had to get Michael (Kevin) and Sue (Debbie) tested before filming to ensure they were safe to be in close contact and on receipt of a negative result, they were allowed within the rules to be as close as they wanted since it was for work purposes?
* The scenes depicting Asha and Nina kissing in the cafe seem to have been achieved through clever EastEnders-style camera trickery. The characters never got close enough to touch each other, with the action cutting to a different scene before the actual kiss. Presumably Tanisha (Asha) and Mollie (Nina) were filmed separately, one in the left of the frame and one in the right, and then the footage was put together with a seamless split in the centre, making it look like they were moving closer to each other from each side of the screen.
There has already been one non-socially-distanced moment, although you'd have missed it if you blinked - Hope and Joseph playing in the street, because they're siblings in real life.
