Why don't they just stylise the name to 5pike if they want people to know it is part of the Channel 5 family? Or just merge the content with 5 USA and 5 STAR? They don't need another channel for all that Spike shows that wouldn't fit elsewhere. I dread to think what they will be calling Paramount when it launches...!

Because it reads 5 Pike if they do that.

I can understand Channel 5 wanting to align Spike with the rest of its channel portfolio, but all I can say is....meh.

Considering Spike just seems to repeat Police Interceptors and Can't Pay, Won't Pay, it's not a surprise they want more brand awareness of C5 with the channel.

Spike was supose to be male focesd and it's failed. My5 could cover most of it.

How long have five star been using music videos leading in to programmes? I've seen it happen on a few times with Neighbours and Home and Away recently.

What makes you consider Spike to be a failure? It constantly delivers good ratings well ahead of My5. The audience split is approx 60/40 male/female.

My5 was well late into the game with their channel. 4Seven was well established before Viacom launched the old C5+24.

As much as Spike is yet another outlet for C5 to dump their shows on, it's a strong brand.

Can’t say I’m too surprised considering Spike is on its way out in the US, their version is getting replaced by Paramount Channel. 5 Spike would make more sense if there won’t be US version to model it off in future.

5 USA is the only sensibly name channel they'll have, and even then there's plenty of USA shows on the other channels to render the name redundant.

Although it will no longer exist in the US, Spike will continue to be rolled out in Europe with an Italian version on the way next: http://variety.com/2017/tv/global/viacom-expands-italy-spike-tv-super-kids-channel-1202557111/

There is a co-branded Spike channel in Hungary where it is a joint venture with RTL. "RTL Spike" does sound better than 5Spike however, http://rtlspike.hu/
