I can assure you that the DOG cap is real. I believe Stu was also watching Goodbye Mr Chips (for some bizarre reason!!) and mentioned the DOG in the chat room.

I can see your point about it looking very clear, but if you look at the bottom-right of the screen you'll see it's much fuzzier than the top-left. I'm not a TV technician so I can't tell you the reasoning behind this, but doesn't a TV Card scan from top-left down to bottom-right and then start again? Perhaps this section was allowed more pixel-depth .. I'm not doctor!

It's the old 'transitional period' problem again. Once they are broadcasting fully in digital widescreen, in theory they should move the logos (and everything) outwards to use the screen properly.

That's what German channels do when they broadcast in widescreen (which is NOT very often). Their 'Breitbild' programming is always 16:9 with the DOG in the same place it would be on a 4:3 broadcast: hugging the top-left corner. I don't know the ratio of German households with widescreen sets, nor the number of ppl with digital boxes (I know the family I stayed with in September had a digibox with a 4:3 set).

VH1 Classic's DOG no longer animates, it is a still dog in the top right hand corner and compared to the other music channels the DOG is not intrusive. It stays on screen through the adverts but goes black & white.

I don't mind DOGs on Satallite channels but not on the Terrestrial channels. Plus i ony like them if they are subtle and unobtrusive like E4 and other rubbish doesn't come up.

The worst things are programme DOGs and Strand DOGs like the movie on Cartoon Network. That is HOOOOOGE and very annoying.

Personally I don't think we should stand for it if the main 4 put on DOGS, we should all complain and what not.

As for channel 5, why is it so low down all the time? Even on 4:3 it is really far down. Plus why is it in a box and not just a (5)?

Yes, VH1 Classics' dog is not intrusive at all. Have to say that is the best music channel around!
