I didnt think that vote was fair all of it was BBC Programmes

No it's not. Don't forget this list was voted on by the public. It's just a fact that ITV have never ever made any sitcoms which come near to the genius of so of the top BBC entries.

I mean how can you can compare the likes of Dad's Army, Faulty Towers and Only Fools, with George and Mildred, On the Buses and Robins Nest.
NU
The Nurse
Have to agree with the poster that said Fawlty Towers was by far and away the best in the Top 10. Only Fools has some good stuff but it's been done to death.

I was shocked to see some excellent more recent efforts doing so badly, namely The Office, Phoenix Nights and Alan Partridge. The public just have no taste!!!

Oh, and where was "Game On"?!

The reason BBC comedies did so well, is that overall they are the most memorable.

In fact I can not think of one good ITV comedy apart from Rising Damp!

In terms of the top 10, did any expect any comedy from ITV to feature....we are talking about a WIDE range of people voting. Apart from Blackadder, none of my votes were in the top 10 but that is how it goes.

The BBC and Channel 4 (although bit more riske) have always dominated the sitcom sector.....ITV can continue to lower standards if it likes, but comedy (or rather intentional comedy) should be left to the pros!

For all its fault, the BBC does take risks and it does try out far many different formats and this is why the failures or more visible recently like Mad About Alice.

I actaully liked Doctor and Nurses (partly cos I recognise some of the characters in my own workplace).

The reason the Office didn't get into the top ten, far from it being crap, it has a narrower demografic than most of hte comedies features in the top ten.....I can't think many over-60s voting for it.

I voted for Yes, Minister, but I never expected it to win.

It didn't.

My mate was in the audience of this on Saturday night. Said he had a great time until he got back to the train station to see his car smashed up. Lovely jubbly.

Stating the obvious arent we RTS? I know it didnt win, I never expected it to win in the first place, but I still think it should have. Comedy doesnt have to rely on fart jokes, silly prat-falls and insults IMO. I like the fact that Yes, Minister is funny through language, and intelligent discussions!

Oh good Vicar of Dibley has gone - shoulda gone first!

B*llocks, nok32uk!

The Vicar of Dibley is underrated to the same extent that Only Fools And Horses is OVERrated. Evil or Very Mad

A sitcom doesn't have to have started many years ago in order to be one of the best ever. So, just because TVOD was the newest thing in the top ten, doesn't make it a bad condender. It was good to see some sitcoms that are even more recent, such as My Family, in the top 50.

I'm glad the Vicar got bronze. Smile

I was rooting for Blackadder to take gold, so am glad it came within the top 3 too (we woz robbed!). Confused

As some of the advocates said, OFAH has been going on far too long, so however great it may have been once, it has long since gone the way of Red Dwarf VIII, in terms of (lack of) laughs.

I confess that I've never seen any "heyday" episodes of OFAH, and have only seen the not-very-good (IMHO) more recent years' episodes. Maybe if I saw some "classics", I'd like OFAH more, but still not enough to rate it as the best ever.

Well, as the contenders for the Top 10 are all BBC Sitcoms .... Rolling Eyes

So? The top 50 contained plenty of non-BBC sitcoms, thus proving that it wasn't biased. Rolling Eyes The PUBLIC did the voting that lead to the top ten being formed, so you can't blame the beeb! Evil or Very Mad

OFAH did not deserve to win. It may be the public's favourite sitcom, but it is not the best, which is the title of the competition. They should have judged it on quality of script, cast and production, not from how many people lke the show. Another point - why the hell was David Dickinson representing OFAH? He drove me made with his constant , 'working class hero' argument. They should have got someone connected with the show to represent it. They could have fought their cases so much better.

The Vicar of Dibley only got where it did because it was a very PC sit-com which features a very poor actress whos 'right on'.

And even OFAH became PC in the end - Del became a 'new man' etc etc.

Don't be so stupid. Why this obsession with political correctness? It's not healthy.

Vicar of Dibley can be hysterical. The episode where Geraldine shags David's brother is absolutly fantastic. How can you look at that walk when she jumps in the puddle and not laugh like a drain.

As for Jim Trott doing the Full Monty......

Myabe you prefer your fabulous un-pc tapes of Love thy Neighbour and Benny Hill

I find him hysterical and one of the best assets the BBC has.

Fair enough, Marcus, we're simply into a matter of opinion on this one, and yours is as valid as mine.

I think it's down to age with Mr Ross, younger people can probably cope with him better.

I just find it very sad that he's now stopped me watching They Think it's all Over AND this programme.

Maybe they can, although I'm probably older than most on this forum. Jonathan is not filthy. He may be a bit risque sometimes but that is part of the great british sense of humour stretching back to Chaucer. He is incredibly quick witted and a natural TV host.

By the way, a word of advice. Don't go to see a recording of his TV show.. The stuff they cut out is far more ofensive than any of the stuff they leave in.
