Well in 2020 Big Brother Australia is returning. To a new channel, news house and a new format. The channel will appear on Channel 7. Since the old house was torn down, Channel7 has wisely decided to construct the new house in a studio in 7. This will save loads of money. Apparently and the biggest controversy is that the show may be PRE-RECORDED to air after the Olympics. Apparently there are advertisements indicating positions available for the Spring and the show is scheduled to air much later. So fans are speculating it might be precorded and not have host.
Also the show will take on the North American format. They released a video at the recent upfront confirming the INTL format has been dropped. The long running Brasilian format has adopted elements of the North American show now the Australian version. This will be interesting to see how they execute this. I expect it to be similar to Big Brother Canada than BBUSA. Which is frankly looking dated by comparison.

The graphics remind me of the final BBUK series.

Confirms they're going the US format route and that format deserves a chance in Australia as it is a great format - but a key part of that is it unfolding unreal time as it is broadcast, along with the 24/7 feeds. If they do pre-record it the show is dead on arrival.

Also regardless of that incredibly dumb to air a more gameplay focused version of the show at the exact same time of year as Ten airs its increasingly popular version of Survivor.

Judging from that 7Upfont teaser, it seems they will format the show closer in line with BBCAN. Which uses some BBUK elements. BBUSA is just a bit to cheesy and stale at this point. I do think its a smarter move to put the house in a studio is cost effective than building a stand alone structure. Big Brother isnt the cheapest show to produce. So cost savings is going to be factor. BBCAN seems to have done a good job at that. Especially when you look at the house design. Money spent on the Main rooms and skipped on the bed rooms, which are relatively basic and similar. Something Grodner and crew at CBS seems to get wrong every year.

I hope they have the theme song for BBAU back as well but I am saddened that the show will not be live, no host and they will be taking on the BB USA format (which I dislike).

I hope they will listen to the fan and fix this soon.

Well unfortunately the concept of strangers people in a house and yelling at each other has been done in various formats for years around the world. Originally done by MTV's The REAL WORLD. Now you have Geordie Shore, Jersey Shore, Ex on the Beach and on and on. The previous incarnation of Big Brother clearly no longer has a sustainable audience, hence the cancellations, hiatus breaks and channel movements in other territories, so its time time to shake that up. But with the North American format you have all that and the game/strategy/popularity/ social experiment element mixed in. It was the Circle before The Circle was The Circle. (LOL)

I also think this season actually highlighted how the US version is still the social experiment Big Brother set out to be. Yes, it showed aspects of society we like to think don't exist anymore but it illustrated these issues pretty effectively.

No need to sulk just yet, for all we know the show could be live.

Also, is that Luisa Zissman from CBB 2014 at 1:22?

7 have now confirmed it won't be live in the same interview as saying they don't want to alienate fans.

Wow. I really think they made a massive mistake with that. I think the changes might be too much for the audience. I think if they did the first season LIVE, hopefully the audience catches on and if successful then did the next series recorded. You'd have the audience hooked. It might not be so bad. This is going to be tricky I say. Hope they can pull it off and not drive the audience away. Ohh boy....

I think a pre-recorded Big Brother is an interesting experiment and one that could make for better storytelling.

Wasn’t the first series of the UK version pre-recorded?
