What I liked about this era was the strong music motif. That seems to have been lost in recent idents (looking at you Oneness!)
That's another thing I didn't like - I found that musical jingle rather irritating, as I did the one on the BBC1 dancer idents. I much prefer the more subtle type of music you get on the BBC2 curve idents, for example.
In hindsight, anything that replaced the 1991-2001 set was always going to struggle, but the biggest mistake they made was only launching with four idents which were quite restrictive, especially with the yellow colour scheme.
I never liked the box, as the logo was fine when it was centralised. But I didn't mind the Personality "2" with robot arms, since BBC2 was heading that way anyway. But they are still inferior to the previous set. Compared to what followed though (and other channels around the same time), they are pretty good.
I think it's probably a bit like the BBC1 balloon in that it had a lot of potential, but it never had the time to live up to it.

The worst thing about channel ident relaunches is going from over 20 idents to just a handful with the new look. Must be soul destroying for the people working with them.
Most channels have around 20 junctions a day so my dream is a channel should launch with 15 to 20. It's what I liked about the BBC1 balloon globe and the BBC2 curve at launch.
As well made as the yellow era 2s were, they didn't make many and there wasn't much variety in what they did with them initially. I was never wowed by them the way I was with the 1991-2001 2s or the curve idents BBC2 has now.
An extreme that ITV has experienced. Going from a vast array of different idents to suit various moods and programmes to two or three edits of the same piece of art work in every junction for the week.
