The first 'conventional' TV programme made by and for Radio One audiences gets a linear television outing tonight. BBC Radio 1's live lounge month is being crystallised into four one hour programmes shown at 8pm on sequential Fridays on BBC FOUR.

I suspect the commercial sector will cry foul at this. It does seem to be against the spirit, if not the letter, of the (former) BBC Trust licence for Radio 1's video service.

Not any more than how Radio 1 used to air "highlights" on BBC Three.

If it's aired on the Radio 1 video/on-line service, why can't it be revisioned for a wider audience who would like to see a series of 'less is more' music performances. Better to use the footage twice, than to hire another studio and book the artist to sing the same songs again.
Wonder if we'll get BBC Radio Two and BBC Six Music performances that were played out on the red button, being going to get a Friday night BBC Four showing in the same way?

By the way, the commercial sector will cry foul of this. They seem to take great delight in 'airswiping' the BBC, whilst all the time hoping no-one will actually notice how mindnumbingly formulaic and repetitve their services actually are.
BBC. Providing public service music broadcasting.
Commercial Radio. Providing a profit for the station owners.

I wholeheartedly agree, but I'm just pointing out the discrepancy in this limited series. The intent behind 'Radio 1 TV' was to produce short form productions which were to accompany and enhance the audio service offered. This goes a hell of a lot further than that. Indicating that it's a Radio 1 TV production on the Webpages significantly ups the ante too.

I've always thought that Radio 1 productions for online should have been repackaged for TV a long time ago - when BBC Three was a proper thing they went through a period of producing lots of short shows, including one that was highlights of everything on Radio 1 over the last week. ISTR it was about 23 minutes long online, so it always seemed a bit strange to me that they never found an extra few minutes and made it into a half hour slot on Three. Likewise, with two Live Lounge performances a week, and three songs from each, chuck in an interview with each artist and top and tail it and you've probably got another 30 minutes!
