BBC1 is so obcessed with being younger, fresher, etc. that it's not catering to all of Britain. That would be fine were it private, but it's a public broadcaster.
Amusing how the real aim of all of this "inclusiveness" junk might really be nothing more than an attempt to appeal to young people. That's rather exclusive, isn't it?
Furthermore, what's with this compulsive obcession with youth? Is it just a bunch of middle aged marketing managers who got an idea in their head? Or is it based on the notion that young people are at the cultural forefront of society? Or, again, are the people making decisions just trying to feel young themselves by creating a youthful buzz around them? Maybe once BBC top brass get over their mid-life crises BBC1's branding will become more traditional? The motivations behind this are not clear to me.

There will be
no new idents
- apparently the current ones are here for a few more years

That's good - there was a yoof-style V/O after a programme a few days ago during an ECP then back to the on air announcer. Seemed a bit bizarre. Fingers crossed the junctions will look a little better. The use of white or faded picture (over slides etc..) was horrible from day one. Any chance of a return to programme promotion stings even if it is just quick cuts of the existing idents?

Also much more from con - with next/now/later stings in junctions and the live announcer doing the voice on ECPs to keep the voice consistent.

That's where I think the current idents aren't as versatile as the balloons. I can't imagine short stings of the current idents, whereas with the balloons, there was more scope.

Their are actually already short stings of the current idents, with a slighty different cut of the soundtracks. BBC One NI use them quite a bit, and they were used in the first few days of the current look by Network, but not since it seems.

Not if they weren't appealing to the young in the first place,
True, but it becomes "exclusive" when the whole focus shifts from supposedly alienating the younger audience to actively pursuing the younger audience at the expense of all other demographics. There is a trend - not only in television, but in most industries - to 'broaden the appeal' of a brand, which inevitably means focusing very heavily on making it appeal to younger buyers/users/viewers.
This tendency to focus on youth - and to sell the idea as making the brand "more accessible", "more inclusive" - is occurring at the expense of everyone else, and so far from becoming "more inclusive", such products end up leaning towards being promoted exclusively to young folk.

While they're at it, perhaps they could get rid of this dreadful quiz show that's on at the moment.
"Come and have a go..." or something.
It has to be the most boring, tedious, irritating (Nicky Campbell) quiz show ever.
I think only one team has got one question wrong so far, and it's been on for about 20 minutes. Even the contestants look bored - one having just replied to the question of "how do you think you're doing?" with "I've lost track of the scores". Presumably she's been asleep.
