HAVE YOU HEARD JULES BOTFIELD LEFT LDN TO GO TO BBC BREAKFAST Wink THEN SHE WENT BACK AGAIN Very Happy

DOES ANYONE ELSE MISS NEWSROOM SOUTH EAST ????

No I don't miss Newsroom South East and BBC LDN has to be the worst regional news programme ever - poor graphics, poor title music and a bias towards inner London. This is no good if you live outside of the capital like in South Essex for example, which isn't covered by any BBC regional news programme.

That's why Meridian Tonight rules in South Essex! MT is better than South Today, South East Today, BBC LDN, London Tonight, Look East (Norwich) and Anglia News put together.

Please could you not type everything in capital letters - it means shouting on the internet. Smile

Many thanks.

Whilst I wasn't a great fan of Newsroom South East - it was far more watchable than BBC London News. The NSE presenters were better - Gwenan and Mike were far better than Emily - though it is good to see Gillian still around. Apologies to anyone who works on LDN, or likes it, I can't stand it and often now switch to South Today via DSat.

London just seems to be more keen to be seen to be trying to be "hip" and "edgy" than a decent news service for the capital, yet in fact is just amateurish and boring.

The programme is full of pointless, poorly executed lives - some from a roof (is it the roof above BBC London?) for some reason - that add little to your knowledge of a story, and seem only to be done because "Live" is good. Or is it because they can't edit enough decent packages quickly?

It only seems to covers London in depth, ignoring the rest of the home counties who watch Crystal Palace and receive the service. Their regional 'reach' stretches as far as Reading in the West yet they hardly bother covering outside the M25...

Technically the show is a joke - poor sound, poor lighting / colour balance, awful studio camerawork, a server system that still doesn't seem to work reliably etc. The quality of some location camerawork (some looks like 4:3 DV journo-cam), script-writing and editing (especially sound) is also shocking.

The quality of the short bulletins in particular is awful - especially the sound. The 2225 seldom contains any news updates, and rather than show shorter cut-down versions of a reasonable number of news reports they don't seem to do any significant re-versioning - and often just show a couple of identical reports (or worse clips from lives) that were seen at 1830.

I am sure that many of the staff on the programme would wish to be able to do better - however it strikes me that the staffing levels and multi-skilling involved don't allow them to.

In fact the titles and music are the only decent thing about the show.

Newsroom South East was often a bit dull, and had a stupid patch to cover - Dover - Oxford was a bizarre region! Most of the time at least it was a competently produced TV programme...

London at times looks like it's being produced by a group of media studies students on work experience.

The Jubilee 1630 programme yesterday was truly, truly awful - when compared to the other DSat regions. What was worse was that the 1750 regional news bulletin contained almost identical packages - just over an hour later... At least the other regions broadcast some different news at 1750 - surely there were other, newsier angles for the 1750 if the Jubilee was still the London story? (Or was it lack of editing again?)

I heard rumours that London only have a couple of proper (non-desktop) edit suites on their server system - whereas most traditional regions will have 4-6 VT suites (some normally used for features) - more if there is a sub-regional centre (like Cambridge, Oxford etc.)

I agree with everything noggin has said!

Newsroom South East was a lot more watchable, maybe even that the perception was that it covered the home counties because of the name, but now BBC London makes you think your not covered by it.

At the start of BBC London News, late last year, I thought this wouldn't happen, as they seemed very confident that outer areas would be covered better than before. I even remember someone emailing from High Wycombe and it getting read out on air, but nothing has got better, it may have got worse since NSE.

BBC LDN did have a couple of OB's from my nearest town around when it started, but nothing seems to get covered anymore, just like the local elections that were ignored earlier this year.

I, like noggin, am now watching a different region; Look East (West), which I never thought I'd be doing. Confused 8O

You've only got to look at BBC London's weather map to see the big area it covers, but the times when it goes out of the M25 and goes anywhere near the places are very rare Sad

Pah, rebranding BBC Newsroom Southeast to BBC LDN was (one of) the best decisions the BBC ever made to regional news. We now have a fit newsreader reading the news, instead of a crinkle-cut crisp (Mike Embly), a great red theme with brilliant sounds, and most of all a service that provides all you want in your area, On TV, On Radio, Online .

Err- it may cover your area On TV, On Radio, Online but it doesn't mine.

BBC London is my local TV region, but BBC Radio Berkshire and BBC Berkshire Online are my local radio station and internet site... Yet I constantly get BBC LDN 94.9 and BBC London's internet site pushed at me on TV - neither of which are particularly relevant to me.

(Though BBC LDN 94.9 constantly interrupts my car radio with "travel announcements" that contain no travel news... Don't know if it is a fault or studio finger trouble - they often seem to trigger a TA during the news...)

BBC London may have a 'fit' presenter - she is hardly the most competent autocutie I have seen - and nice graphics, but it basically ignores a large part of its TV audience, and doesn't provide a particularly comprehensive news service. Nice to see an attempt to cover entertainment news for the capital - but even that always seems a bit second rate.

Mike Embley seems to have done well for himself - he regularly presents on BBC World, and BBC News 24, which he will be doing next week.

I agree with noggin that Emily isn't the most competant 'autocutie' around - she does make quite a few mistakes!

And in comparison, I think South East Today and the team, have done nothing but wonders since splitting from NRSE. Professionalism, humour where relevant and a general sense of a good atmosphere.

Kent and Sussex should have split from London a long time ago!

Cheers, Asa

I absolutely agree with you there Asa, I was in Amsterdam a few months ago, and I got BBC ONE South East. I watched South East Today each evening while getting ready for the meal in the hotel etc., and it was a brilliant programme - much better than LDN or NWT as far as I can see (except Nigel Jay - he is the best!)
