Second, the box is positioned for 4:3 viewers. Having the logo in the centre of the screen satisfies both 4:3 and 16:9 viewers. There's nothing quite as irritating (well, there is actually but in tv presentation terms) than watching a widescreen channel where the DOGs, etc. are distant from the side of the screen.

Equally, the rectangle itself appears to be of a 4:3 size - seems a bit of an odd choice for a mostly 16:9 channel.
I'm also irritated at the way the regional variations have been sqeezed into the box - it looks so cluttered... and those abbreviations: 'Yorks / Lincs' - and worst, 'N I'. I've not yet seen how 'North East And Cumbria' is abbreviated. Can someone enlighten me?

This is the reason most of us thought that when the article in The Times about the new 2s appeared and FISH was shown, we just thought the newspaper had stuck the purple box on the ident, we didn't think they would actually use the box. I always remember looking in the EXPRESS and seeing the boxes. The box looks good in 4:3 but horrible in 16:9 so I always watch in 4:3 and on a 4:3 TV of course!

in The Sun today the tv listing part had the BBC TWO logo (purple background, white text) and the BBC ONE logo was the same style except a red background. could this be a sign??????????????http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/shocked.gif http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/shocked.gif http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/shocked.gif http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/shocked.gif

My local paper, the Hull Daily Mail, (http://www.thisishull.co.uk) uses the box style too, but the box is missing i.e. white, and the writing is black, for both channels. They'll probably change the colours when BBC1 changes though.
Talking of which, they still use the multicoloured 4 logo!

The Radio Times used these boxes too originally.
However, the BBC ONE box had the balloon material for its background (so it wasn't completely red) and the BBC TWO box was Turquoise (which was the staple colour of the 1991-97 2's)

Bah! I was hoping the site I quoted had the logos on, but they don't even list the right region for ITV! (It lists Central, which is odd, because Yorkshire is the correct one!)

not neccessarily...
BBC News 24, BBC Parliament, BBC World...
will come under the BBC News style, so they will resemble each other, and thus, dont fit in with the box style...

I don't like the idea of there being a 'BBC style' and a 'BBC news style' that aren't one and the same thing.
I like the box arrangement a lot and would like to see it extended even to the three newsie channels.

Interesting - last time I looked at that page, it had a B B C FOUR logo at the top. In fact, it's been archived by www.archive.org:

I think the style of two is good & that the purple box has improved the trailers (taking up only a quater of the screen where as the old style used to take up about half of it) but the main problem I have is the colour the yellow does not work well, blue or green whould have looked much better brilliant mock by the way a chance of some more for BBC 4 or BBC 1 & 3

Absolutely. As a channel promoted as 'Radio 4 on TV' I am certainly looking forward to it. However, simply a rebranded BBC Knowledge with a news programme and the odd debate thrown in will NOT constitute as this 'Radio 4 on TV'. Radio 4 broadcasts some of the finest comedy in the UK - I lie awake at night worrying that BBC FOUR may be dull if they don't get the idea of Radio 4 into it.

It's put together very well, but I'd hope they will use something a little more jazzy and modern for the idents. Just because it's got arts and culture programmes on it doesn't mean it is only aimed at old people who like classical music!

All the News 24 mocks seem to have been in the style
|B|B|C|
NEWS 24
but personly I think it would look like the regional idents
i.e.
|B|B|C|
NEWS
24
or go for the whole 2W thing and call it BBC N24, although its unlikely they will effectively rename the channel in my opinion
