The reason was, the old globe was burnt onto the London Plus titles, so the new globe resulted in slightly different London Plus titles the next day!

Was it done that way to save NC1 needing a South East ident on their globe?

I don't think so, it's just so that the globe would morph into the globe at the start of the title sequence, which I always thought was a nice touch. There was never a South East-branded version of the BBC1 globe until early on in the COW era anyway.

I've not heard that before, I'm not sure that was the case. It almost certainly wouldn't have been that night because the launch of Wogan was a bloody big deal and they wouldn't have wanted the regions fiddling about before it.

London Plus's titles started with a globe roughly the same size and position as the BBC1 globe and they did a mix into the titles. I don't think it was 'burnt onto' the title sequence, it would certainly be more difficult to do that way than just a standard junction with a slowish mix at the end,

Their new titles started with a of the south east and they were used from the 18th Feb. So they had the old globe with the new titles for one day. At the end of London Plus Guy Michelmore says 'standby for new Wogan, new globe... it's going to be terrific!'

I don't understand how having the ident and titles separate and fading between the 2 would be easier than burning the ident onto the start of the titles? Having looked on TV Ark, the transition always seemed to happen when the globe got round to Australia and lined up pretty perfectly.

If the ident and titles were indeed separate then it seems an awful lot of trouble to go to every night to get the transition spot on, especially as the ident was a live model?

Ahhh, yes I've just looked at a few examples and you're right. That's a subtlety that I hadn't noticed (mind you I only watched one of them!)

My logic was that talking over the globe is something that NC1 did all day, whereas introducing a programme over the beginning of the programme was/is less common. Probably not technically difficult in those days but still not a standard procedure
