Pop Goes BBC TWO did contain brief snippets of past idents, though, including, from my favourite era (1991-2001): Blade, Paint, Garden, Powder, Aerial, Neon and Fluffy Dog.
It also contained some of the 'Personality' idents (my personal favourites) like Bounce and Formation.

A good programme on the whole actually; very much enjoyed it. Those snippets of symbols used to link between the clips were a nice idea (plus a mish-mash of stills / BBC logo on the strap graphics)

Yes, I enjoyed it as well, and the use of retro idents throughout gave it a commemorative feel. I'm hoping the programme will be repeated, but, alas, I notice nothing in the schedules
50 Years of Sport on BBC2 should be interesting - wonder how much they'll reference that when things get interesting nowadays it's bumped over to BBC1.

That's a good point, BBC 2 doesn't seem to be allowed to get any kudos from any significant sports events !
It would kind of be appropriate if the last 15 minutes of it was bumped over to BBC1.
Seems poor scheduling tonight with the snooker, then a documentary about the 1985 final - but then a Morecambe and Wise special at 7pm before the sport doc at 8pm. Would surely have made sense for the two sport documentaries to air back to back.

It was also refreshing to see native 4:3 archive, in 4:3, and native 16:9 in 16:9 (there was just one example
of zoomed and cropped footage, that was taken from another archive programme produced in the 00s)
Tricky for me to see the start of the '85 Black Ball Final documentary without having an anoraky moment of questioning why they chose the BBC 2 sting from Christmas that year, on a television, to represent an event that had already taken place in April.
There's something of an irony to a programme celebrating sport on BBC2 given the rush to move coverage of Wimbledon and the like to BBC1 if anything of importance is happening.
