Sky News is now officially the most watched Pay TV channel in Australia - it's not uncommon for them to have a clean sweep of the 5 most watched Pay TV shows night after night.

Probably because it's on every television screen in every News Australia office, of which there are dozens, 24 hours a day.

Haha. Pay TV has very low penetration in Australia - around 30%. And Sky is not on Freeview there. So it’s only avail in 30% of homes.

There is something very sinister feeling about that promo.

Well, it is effectively the Australian version of Fox News.

As we're seemingly no longer supposed to have an opinion on anything other than the graphics of news broadcasters, I must say I've always liked their current graphics. Simple, but IMO work so much better than what we have here currently.

I wonder when will Sky UK finally revoke Sky News Australia's right to use "Sky News" name, since the British Sky is now a part of Comcast, while Sky News Australia remains to be a part of Rupert Murdoch's (new) News Corp. Also, will Sky News UK retain its partnership with its Australian 'cousin', or will they switch to Seven News as their new partner? (Seven News already partners with NBC, which is owned by Comcast.)

I'm not sure Comcast/Sky will revoke a licence agreement, though they may decide not to renew it I guess. I wonder how long any current licensing arrangement agreed as part of the sale of Sky to Comcast lasts?

I have to think in the next 5 years it will go away. Comcast won’t want the Sky name used in Australia anymore for a network that increasingly resembles Fox, and News Corp Australia will want to adapt a brand that they can own and control more and stop paying the license fee

I think we’ve had this conversation before - it’s over the other side of the world, it’s not bothering anyone in Europe, it’s possibly even bringing in Sky a small amount of revenue in license fees for the brand and supply of programming (do they still show Sky News overnight?). As long as they do nothing to bring the Sky brand into disrepute (and I mean something big enough that it would get reported in the U.K. press) Sky won’t go near them.
