I was at Osterley quite a bit last week and had a word with him, and he seemed very upbeat about things.
There is a lot of discontent at Sky News, though, about the way things have been progressing since the relaunch. Six months on and no improvement in ratings, deadweights like Buckley and Rubin (who are genuinely disliked by some staff) still on air, relaunch widely condemned as a failure and yet nothing done about it...
I genuinely worry for the channel now, though. Pollard has kept it relatively value-free, despite pressure from on high to move in the opposite direction.

it is getting increasingly worse, and going steadily downmarket. Last week Lve at 5's top stroy was the England footie job, what sort of a main news story is that for a NEWS channel?
The trouble is they are getting too bogged down with all this competition stuff. They can not compete with the BBC, they never will, thats a given. All they've got to do is exploit what they are good at

Quite a big one, actually.
I can't think of a time when a new England manager has been appointed and he hasn't been the top story, not just on Sky but on practically every other outlet on TV.
You've got no idea what you're talking about.

To be fair that was breaking news, and something which had been hotly debated, namely due to FA denials.
Anyway, that's neither here nor there. Like Cat has said the relaunch has been regarded, in many circles, as an absolute disaster. I was told the other week that the old "feel" was much more appealing. There is contempt, from what I can gather, at Sky at even watching certain 'performances' it's easy to understand. Just take the weekend 'active' aston for example.
I shall be interested to see what Pollards responce is.

What an odd thing to say. Most people would be of the opinion that up until R-day last October they did compete, and did so very well, and were still beating them (N24) soundly in many (if not most) respects.
3rd edit: My grammar structure in this post is appalling. I wont edit it any more because its getting embarassing.

Hey thats your opinion. Its a NEWS channel, sure it should have been one of the headlines but not up the top as the FIRST story. ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You obviously have no idea what your saying. They have a dedicated sports news channel. Stick it on that. There are plenty of other decent stories they could have covered, its just because its ATV. Go back to your News of the World or Sunday Mirror.

Ok sorry, what I wanted to say and what i typed didn't really get onto the forum. What I'm saying is that the BBC have something that sky can never have. The regions, and the news-gathering power of them and simply their sheer size etc, and before you say something I know sky news have their little bureaus but they are not nearly as big as the BBCs. I do not agree that you can compare the two of them as they are offering competely different packages.
What ever you make me out to be I still prefered the old sky news. The whole ell was much more down to earth. Now they seem to have had an ego transplant, and I just don't like what I see.
Cat - What we each get from a news channel or news program is different, I tune in for news, not for sport, if I wanted sport I'd go to SSN. Its like if i wanted features and expose style reporting I'd go more for channel 4. If I want to hear the patronizing tones of George Allagiah (sp?) or see Slasha strut her stuff I'd tune into BBC1 at 6 O'Clock. etc...

Indeed. Until "R-Day", sorry, love that phrase, Sky News was regarded as a market leader. Remember it's been established as a news channel alot longer than BBC News 24 or even BBC World and you have to take that into consideration. Even today they are still a force to be reckoned with, not their previous self, but still there.

Don't be such an idiot, SN2005. The appointment of McClaren was obviously a major story, and it could be classified as either sports or news, or indeed sports news. If you wanted the other headlines, why didn't you press red for Sky News Active?
It's something that doesn't surprise me but I can't remember why at the moment.
Oh, and SN2005, word of advice - don't pick a fight with cat. You'll lose.
