To be honest apart from the Celebrity stuff on Sky News, the channel in an operational sense is far more innovative than that of the desk-ridden presentation that the BBC News channel offers. Sky are willing, at least to break the mould and try something a little more dynamic.

In terms of the way it works as a news channel Sky is very good, and many of its rivals aspire to be in terms of the way it works. And of course it has been at it longer than most! However their editorial judgement does let them down fairly regularly.

There's nothing wrong with 'desk-ridden' presentation

Sky is/was the first with many innovations that other news channels later took over but right now I think CNN is trying out new things the most.
Shame they were totally ignored in other categories, Sky does a month on Pakistan/Afghanistan and it's supposed to be something so special while reports like that are on CNN all year long.

Of course Sky was first with many things.... but then it was the first and is the longest running.

Most of the 'innovations' I've seen on CNN have been very gimmicky to be honest

IMHO, the BBC should be the leader in innovation... I don't undertand why they lack the willingness to do it- maybe come 2011 we'll see something new in their new building at BH.

Overall, no real surprises with the awards.

Innovation?! What the f*ck do you want? It's only a news channel - Peter Sissons leaping around the studio in a thong telling us the news is on one half of Jeremy Clarkson's face?

Innovate in what way? What exactly do you watch a news channel for?

Personally I'd prefer that they just do sensible no-nonsense good honest news rather than resorting to gimmicks

Anyway back to the thread, I do think that the BBC News at Ten deserved the award it got. Smile

It is a very good programme and is still much better than the NAT.

Very well deserved.
