Hi, my first post, so please be gentle with me!

I've just had a quick skim through some of the threads and you all seem to be very aware and proficient when it comes to technical matters but you also have a lot to say about design and presentation too.

I've read some comments about reporters or presenters and wonder if you can give me some tips and pointers about what makes the difference between a poor reporter/presenter, a good one, and an excellent one?

I'm just about to start a broadcast journalism course and would like, if possible, to benefit from your combined experience and wisdom and avoid some of those quirky, irritating and plain bad habits that drive you to distraction when you're watching the news.

Thanks Smile

Reporters / presenters should have a sense of humour. A boring presenter is someone who just sits and reads the news straight from the autocue / script with no feeling. Try to 'ad-lib' as Huw Edwards says he does, although I have never noticed it.

In my opinion

A good Reporter is someone who can deliver that facts, and news, while sounding and appearing authoritve, with a human side.

If that makes sense.

On the Newsreader front, again it needs to be someone who's got authority, but also needs to be friendly.

Above all though they need to be natural, not pretending to be someone they're not.

Hope that makes sence.
