BBC Newsline's 6.15pm headlines were presented by Stephen Watson from what looked like a badly lit broom cupboard of a studio with a dark background. Or was he merely sitting at the main desk and the screen behind was switched off? Looked very odd.

Seems it was the latter. They're in the main studio but there seems to be a problem with the projector screen behind the presenters - the screen is blank.
EDIT: there's fog here in Belfast at the moment but it's not that dense. Surely that's not what's to blame?

I was in the City Centre at that time, and the fog was indeed that dense. Looking out of the window, I couldn't see buildings approx' 100 yards away... so I would guess that low cloud/fog would indeed obscure the view from the top of the BT building.

Yep, it did look odd, but the decision was passed down that the live camera shot should be used.

Very cryptic remark at the end of tonight's UTV Live by Clarky: "Wonder what Gerry Anderson will think of our body language tonight?".
Never mind body language, I'd like to hear Anderson's view on the "happy talk" between Paul and Lynda after the Linfield Legends report...

A good job Alison Fleming is back from maternity leave, else we'd have Clark and Clarke every day for the next few months.

Probably won't happen. UTV seem to be gradually phasing out the dual role of announcer/newsreader; I predict soon enough we won't see Gilly or Rose reading the news on the station in favour of the likes of Clarke and Fitzgerald ingratiating themselves on the viewers.
Lynda's "sabbatical" could have been a chance for Tina Campbell to come back into the UTV Live presenting fold, but she seems ensconced in Seven Thirty duties on her working days so it'll most like be Alison Fleming and Sarah Clarke sharing the female anchor position.
Also, who would cover for Paul Clark on UTV Live Tonight if he is on leave or unable to present it? Knowing UTV, they'll probably take Tonight off any time he's not available
And an interesting observation from a UTV source in the Tele article:
“Lynda is not suspended. She is very welcome in UTV. We are continuing to pay her contract while she is off-air. We are happy to discuss any alternative on-air (non news/current affairs) roles she may want to do until the election is over although she is not under obligation to do this and UTV doesn't have any other obvious non-news programmes in production at the moment .”
Can't they put her on BrainDead?
Its certainly a great shame for Lynda . . . but what a great opportunity to bring in Rose Neill to the top desk for a few months
