Memo to u.tv: Please sort out the timing on the UTV Live stream, the start of the programme is clipped off and you cut off Jamie Delargy's report when splitting the programme in half.

A proper live OB tonight. YAY! No Frank! Marc on the weather instead, so there was an actual forecast. And another quirk: how come the "parachute" weather stings use the "Dream Day" song in the intro sequence, but the "Brand New Star" song in the outro sequence?

What was the deal with the fade through blacks, the slow motion shots and dodgy zoom outs and shaky camerawork in Sharon O'Neill's report on the New Force on UTV Live tonight? If I was her editor, that piece wouldn't have made the air looking like that.

Didn't look like the sport OB in Dublin was live, either - the sky looked too light for 6.15 on a February evening. At least, in their defence, UTV aren't sticking "live" astons on such OB reports.

Big Ivan didn't get a phenomenal farewell tribute on-screen then, no surprise there. And Mitchell back on the weather, sadly.

Just been reading the 2009 programme statement. Mentions they are extending the 22.30 bulletin to 30 minutes. Can anyone tell me anymore about this?

Ooh, that document's a very interesting read! Seems they're going to extend the late bulletin and incorporate all their Insight stuff as well as the news so they can meet their current affairs output. The provisional name for it is UTV Live Tonight . Another point to note is:

Quote:
Our early evening news programme UTV Live will be relaunched with a new set, titles and most importantly re-emphasising the serious news agenda that makes UTV Live the most watched regional news programme in Northern Ireland and the most watched regional news in the whole of the ITV Network.

Wonder when this will happen. Will they wait til September like the last time or will it be before that? Let's hope they get rid of the desk this time and replace it with something a bit nicer that doesn't look like it's just been plonked in the middle of a giant studio!

It's Police Six Revisited! Where's Keith Burnside when you need him? Smile

Not bad graphics, though. And the yellow sofa lives, sadly.

Was anyone watching UTV last night around the time when the news broke about the shooting in Antrim? Was just wondering if there was any mention of it on screen? I was speaking to someone earlier who said they were watching a film last night and it was interrupted with the breaking news. It mustn't have been UTV though because there was no film on last night around that time. Did any other channels interrupt the programming to bring the news?

After the ITV News, Julian done a voiceover over an old utv slide from a few years ago, telling viewers that utv will keep viewers updated tomorrow on u.tv, on news and on u105. Then I think it went into a film.

BBC1 Northern Ireland put up a strap for a time during their late film.

Just to note there are news specials on BBC1 and UTV tonight - a Spotlight Special with Mark Carruthers at 10.35pm, and an hour-long UTV programme from 10.30pm.

EDIT: how coincidental that as these specials go on air, the news breaks of the latest shooting. Confirmation of the police officer's death came just after BBC1 came off the air. UTV rolling with updates, and had a live two-way with a local politician. Surprised, tbh, that the Beeb haven't come back on air.

Aside from current events in NI, two sports journos are currently sought at Havoc House.
