The update consisted of Marc in the IVC studio, handing over to Jude Hill in the newsroom.

The Nolan Show could be interesting this evening . . .

EDIT: also noteworthy that this programme - usually shown live and featuring live viewer phone calls - has been pre-recorded this evening. Not sure this is related to the planned protests at Blackstaff House this evening or otherwise.

Just reading on Twitter about some nasty technical gremlins on tonight's BBC Newsline. It sounds like it was well-handled on-air, yet it doesn't stop some Facebook users from making the following remarks...

Quote:
(name removed) so we have to wait for your pro republican anti Unionist propaganda tonight?

The above comment has two likes so far.

(name removed) Am sure you'll just blame it on the poor protesters.

Thankfully, the feedback on Twitter - to and from newsroom staff - is more tasteful and shows humour in the face of adversity.

I was if the reason @FrankU105 wasn't on #WeatherWatchers tonight, was because he was round sabotaging @bbcnewsline? #FrankiesTime

BBC Newsline ‏@bbcnewsline
@CastleDD see if we find out it was him, he'll have more than a cold front to deal with Wink

@bbcnewsline haha fair play to you for taking it in good humour. Smile

Saw that on Twitter myself - so does anyone in NI know what happened?

Tonight's bulletin is now on iPlayer for the next 21 hours:

[EDIT: link now invalid]

In summary: three of the first four reports on the 6.30pm bulletin played out with no sound, with the other "buffering" at a slow rate after the first few seconds.

Stephen Watson did a reasonable job holding the show together, and following a live OB with Donna Traynor in a Belfast restaurant, he returned to the first four stories which went out with sound issues rectified.

Pretty big breakdown that! Like the blurred shot after the 4th report with the crew running infront of the cameras! Laughing I dare say its *almost* as good as a Bid TV breakdown.

Tonight was Sarah Travers' final appearance as one of the BBC Newsline team, following her announcement of leaving the Corporation after 17 years.

Donna and Stephen paid tribute to her at the end of the show, where a montage of her time on-screen was shown.

You can see the montage for yourself, as well as a lovely interview with a lovely, professional broadcaster:

Best of luck for the future in whatever you do, Sarah, and thank you for all you've achieved in your time at the BBC.

Judith Hill just did a live two-way from the roof of Havelock House into the ITV News at 1.30 on the ongoing security alert in (London)Derry. Capably and confidently delivered, too.

Whatever happened to 'The Issue' with Yvette Shapiro on UTV? It seemed to disappear as quickly as it appeared . . .
