Should N6 and N8 swap?

Is N6 now more suited to News 24? (May 2006)

I think News 24 should get N6 now. It's far more flexible, allows more walking around, room for weather forecasts etc, big screen... wasted on what is now the second priority in BBC News!

I disagree.

I think it's really important when running a 24 hour news operation to have a real backdrop (take the old ITV NC which just looked poor without one).

It's fine for set piece bulletins to look different and have fake backdrops, but I don't think you can beat the hustle and bustle of real newsroom when you're handling breaking news.

The advantage of the new nationals is that they look quite distinctive and provide a bit of variety when simulcast on News 24.

Is N24's backdrop real?

I always thought it was a piped video feed ... Confused

OK, I take that as a no then!

Definatly not. It's important to remember the layout of N8 for News 24 - it isn't just a studio, it's a newsroom, with the desks, reporters, editors, technical staff all there - it's a good, very functional set that serves the purpose well.

Isn't N6 quite far away from the newsrooms as well... which would be quite impractical for a 24hour rolling news channel.

Cunningly enough, News 24 is based right behind the News 24 set! No video feed or anything like that. Additionally, being based upstairs, it would be quite hassle if they used N6.
