Surprised no-one's mentioned this

I think while most of us were aware of it's presence, it was officially 'turned on' last night by the UN Secretary General. It will light every night at 10pm for the duration of the 10 o'Clock News.

Why they chose one of the lightest nights of the year to turn it on, I don't know, as the supposed beam of light that should emerge from the sculpture wasn't visible.

Do we think that this will feature in the titles of the 10 when News moves to BH?

That's actual quite nice as memorials go. Did that Diana paddling pool ever re-open?

I think it would be nice for the BBC now to either intergrate into the titles on The BBC News at Ten, or for the BBC News Channel to cut to a live shot of it for the countdown to the Ten, therefore it lights up just as the programme is to begin.

It's nice, obviously on darker nights it will be more noticable. It's also nice to see the BBC remembering past journalist's who have died.

It reminds me a bit of AlJazeera's 'Freedom Wall' which has been at their Doha headquaters since 2006 when AJE launched. The memorial is a recognition of the dangerous work that many journalists are required to do as part of their profession.

Here's a picture of it

It's a memorial, not a theme park attraction. To incorporate such a symbol into a musical ensemble would be pornographic.

I'm slightly disappointed that it's a memorial to *journalists* - what about camera operators and OB engineers?

If you'd read the article, you'd see it is:

Quote:
It is dedicated to all news journalists and those who have worked with them, including drivers and translators.

Quote:
Mr Ban said it stood "in tribute to all those who have sacrificed their lives so that the rest of us could be informed".

Serves me right for believing the aston to be an accurate summary of the story!

Yes musical porn is distracting.

I know I shouldn't feed the troll, but no, I has assumed that "JOURNALISTS MEMORIAL" was what the memorial was called.
