Doubled headed from 11am on the NC - Martine Dennis and Maxine Mawhinney

I'd assume this will be the case all day. Owen Thomas had now joined Maxine.

Sky News plugged Sky News Active for the first time in a while earlier on, saying to 'Press your red button for Sky News Active if you'd like the weather forecast'.

BBC World is taking the BBC1 news bulletin

Edit, World has now broke away to Owen in the N8 pod he assures viewers they will be returning to Maxine later.

Very sensible decision by the BBC to merge BBC News and BBC World News news coverage - particularly as the main story is an international one, and thus likely to be common to both networks.

Usually both networks are single-headed at this time of day, and by merging you can get the two presenters to work together - which is a much better idea during rolling news (as one can be briefed whilst the other is on-air interviewing etc.)

I grew up watching BBC World.
But I have to say that 20 minutes of AlJazeera's coverage of the events in Japan are worth hours of BBC coverage. Just 15 minutes of Nick Clark's interview to a British expert in London made the whole BBC coverage look ridiculous.
When I watch the BBC I can just be amazed by the amount of worthless info they give and their timid way to address stories: hours of coverage and all they tell me and show me could have easily been found on the internet much faster. I switch to AlJazeera and get an extremely informative coverage in just 15 minutes.

I must say watching a bit of Sky and BBC News yesterday I feel the same - they may be offering continuous rolling coverage, but I didn't feel like I was getting the information. Although this a story which does warrant continuous coverage more than most, breaking from the story every half hour or so just focuses the efforts so much more - and of course a well put together report can give you more info in two minutes than a whole hour of rolling news.

I've just been listening to Maxine Mawhinney interviewing a nuclear physicist. She simply wasn't listening to what he was saying, and certainly didn't understand what he was telling her, kept asking the same questions over and over again, presumably trying to extract some sort of prediction of total doom from him. Very poor stuff.

Rather unfortunate name for this nuclear power station isn't it?

I see the armchair generals are all out in force today.
So you think Maxine doesn't know anything about nuclear physics? Well, maybe that's because she's a journalist.
And the "very poor stuff"? This is a story with so many different angles. I think every presenter on all the channels I've been watching have been clear, concise, watchable, engaging and intelligent.

Except Worzel and others will be expecting a different kind of angles - angles where people stand up, and sweeping shots from one side of the studio to the other are used.

I'm surprised this graphic hasn't been updated, despite it never really fitting in with the rest of BBC News' graphics.

It appears on the Live text page everytime they go to a different story - does this mean the stream is available to everyone worldwide?
