All Northern Ireland seats are counted and declared the day after polling; so during Election Night, they get the same programme as Network. Opt-outs on BBC NI/UTV, if they bother with them, are generally full of tales of local paper exit polls, bomb scares at polling stations (which still happen) etc. in lieu of any local results. ISTR in elections past NI viewers often just got the London/SE round-up with no local opt-out.

According to this article on the BBC Election website, all seats in Northern Ireland are to be counted overnight for the first time.

Also, there is this on the BBC Press Office website, which says that Northern Ireland will indeed have a full opt-out election results programme overnight.

Have always found the BBC Wales programme with Huw Edwards better than the Dimbleby show. Where are the BBC Wales and S4C shows usually filmed as though nothing like the scale of the England show, the BBC Wales version at least is usually in a relatively large studio, rather than just a redressed newsroom.

C4's plans:

The Alternative Election Night sounds good, especially with David Mitchell and Charlie Brooker's involvement. Hopefully it'll be like The Election Night Armistice.

Thanks for clarifying that, my reply was more or less based on histrionics, about time Norn Iron came out of the dark ages and got in on the Election Night fun.

Good to hear BBC NI are pulling out the stops, still waiting to hear if UTV are sticking with ITN coverage and doing their own opt-outs - or if they are even bothering with opt-outs at all.

I'm betting it won't be half as good. The last time Ch4 tried topical satire was "Tonightly".

Thank god they're taken this opportunity to do a special Come Dine With Me. It's not on nearly enough. Rolling Eyes

A lot of technical problems on Sky News since the campaign began.

They are using more OBs.
They are using a small Green Screen studio.
They are running Sky News HD tests from the main studio.
No doubt Election Night and Debate rehearsals are taking/due to take place.

These are good enough reasons for technical glitches Smile

Will Newsnight be airing on Saturday evenings during this campaign. IIRC it has for previous elections, with a half-hour edition around 7.30pm.
