Unclear whether President was rehearsing or he was told to start his speech too early. Either way an embarassing mistake was made. Here's the video clip.

It was much funnier when News24 cut to him 1 minute early, at the start of the Gulf War, and got him being made up and having his hair combed

Not CNN's fault though - all our news channels did exactly the same.

N24 went into "BBC News" at 0058 for a couple of minutes discussion beforehand. I did think it was a bit odd that a question was asked just before the speech but realise it was because they weren't expecting it at that moment!

To be fair to Bush (for once), it's unlikely that he was watching CNN.

BTW, it's sad that so many of the yanks on Youtube are taking this as a sign of 'media liberal bias' rather then just a technical cock up

Earlier this year there was an incident on CNN/US where one of their fancy transitions went wrong and the placeholder before it was visible on air, which meant that some VT of Dick Cheney had a massive "X" over it. The right-wing nutheads went mad over it, especially Drudge who had it as top billing on his site.

The next day on the same strand they went into the control room to attempt to explain what went wrong.

The Drudge Report also has a piece on this event, but it seems to be quite restrained, thankfully.

To be fair, he acted very professionally.
For once.
